Festool polishing system
« on: May 24, 2017, 02:04 PM »
I have been looking into the new Festool polishing system and are wondering if anyone here has first hand experience with the different pads and polishes? For the old system, the MPA9000 was labeled as a "1-step" polish, containing both abrasives and a light sealant. The MPA9010 does not seem to contain any sealer, so the polishes seem to have changed slightly. Would the MPA9010 still be a good 1-step polish or will the MPA11010 be a better choice for a light car polish after the winter?

The pad/polish combo is pretty much self explanatory, but it would still be good to get some comments from people with first hand experience using the new system for car polishing.

Maybe this video is helpful?
I'm curious myself about all the different pads and liquids.

Great video, thanks neeleman! It does offer some additional information, for instance about the possible use of the black pad together with MPA11010. Still curious to how these work in practice though.

These look somewhat similar to another famous makers polishing gear.
Should we assume that it is relabelled as Festool? And that the quality is the same?

Hi
The systainer was from the previous version of the Shinex. It was used before the product was fully available and I am not 100% if the 'set' is still available (I cannot access the website tonight).

Thanks for the reply Phil.  I was surprised when it came in a cardboard box. I would have bought the kit with the pads and polishes as I bought most of them separately anyway.  I didn't see that in the catalog (which I can't find right now).  Probably NAINA.

One question.  The catalog said that the polishes came in 5 grits, ranging from 5,000 to 11,000.  I ordered the 5,000 and 11,000 and the one in the middle (maybe 8,000?).  When my dealer got the order it came with the note that the one in the middle is no longer available.  Are all 3 of those grits no longer available?  Maybe somebody in NA has to answer that.

Oops, one more question.   When I got my shinex and the pads and the wax and the polishes, I also got something called "sealing spray" part no. 499900 in a 500ml squirt bottle.   Don't remember ordering it but I probably did.  I am really glad to have this but but don't know why.  I have no clue what it does or how to use it and sometimes Festool labels leave a little to be desired.

Thank you for your help

Whereas you are in the US, and offerings may differ from country to country, I am tagging @TylerC  to try and get you a US answer here.  It is a holiday weekend, so don't be surprised if there is a delay in an answer.

Now I know how to do that.  How do I know when somebody does an @JonSchuck ?  I have never seen a notification like that, only stumbled on them a couple times when I checked out a thread I had commented on.  I do, however, know how to turn my computer on and even off (by unplugging it, right?)

I'm back from the holiday weekend, and I come baring answers.

1. In North America, the Shinex comes in a cardboard box.
2. The 8000 is no longer available. There are three compounds currently available in the US: MPA 5010 (202048), MPA 9010 (202050) and MPA 11010 (202051).
3. The sealing spray is something that I know little about, but I'll see if I can more info. It's a sealant that's applied to preserve and maintain clear coat finishes.

I've attached the US product sheet for the polishing system. There might be more info in here that will be valuable for you.

Thanks @TylerC , that was what I needed (although I was a little afraid to open it, wondering what you were "baring").  [scared]  I found my catalog and it is 2016, so that was my problem.

I like the color coding on the polish.  I was trying to remember which pad is which.  Now I don't have to.  Can't believe I hadn't noticed that.

Does Festool say anything about their sealing spray?  If not, no big deal.

Thanks again.

My mom is a retired English teacher. Can we please keep my bearing/baring error away from her? I'm not sure she'd survive the disappointment.  ;)

Did you find any information about the sealant spray? It would be nice to get some more information about this sealant. How long would this last on a car? Application tips/tricks?

As others have asked, do you have any more information on the sealant spray?

Also, does the old style MPA9000, which included a sealant, have UV protection?

Thanks, Mike A.

I don't believe that it does. Quite honestly, the polishing compounds and sealants aren't ones that we have a lot of information on. Our product team will try to track down some more info.

Also, you're definitely in the running for All-Time Greatest FOG Username.  [not worthy]

No, the MPA 9000 does not have UV protection. From what I can tell the MPA 10800 is the only one that does.  I've attached a PDF about the old versions that might be helpful.

@Festool USA Did you manage to track any information on the sealant spray? Spring is coming again, and the car needs some polish :)

Also, anyone with first hand experience on using MPA11010 with the white pad for a "annual" one-step polish?
