Festool SSU200 capability
« on: April 26, 2017, 05:14 PM »
Hi All
I am building retaining walls made from reclaimed tropical hardwood sleepers, I believe that they are Jarah. They will be covered on the surface in the usual detritus but have no tar or creosote on them. They measure 2.6m x 250mm x 125mm.

I am looking at a way to cut them both cross and rip for this project and have been pointed towards the SSU 200.

Does anyone have any experience using this tool on this type of cutting? Are the chains up to cutting such a dense hardwood? Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the best type of chain?

I have a lot of experience cutting with a hand held chainsaw but it is very hard to get repeated accurate cuts that way and starting / stopping the saw etc is a PITA after a while.

Thanks in advance for any help.
