Well here we go again! Pre Ordering for the FOG edition baseball cap is now open. You can order yours by posting in this thread until 6:00 PM Eastern time on Sunday, October 9, 2011. Yes I know that is a change from the previously announced time, but due to the fact I fell asleep on the couch and the time difference for our international members, it was only fair. For those who participated in the Fogtainer Group Buy, this will sound too familiar, but here goes: What is a FOGcap? It is a navy blue brushed cotton baseball cap shamelessly embroidered with the the FOG logo on the front, the web address of the FOG on the back, and 2011 Edition on the velcro closure on the rear. The front will look approximately like this: The brim is pre-formed to the shape you see in the image. It is advertised as a "one size fits all" but really is a "one size fits many". What is the cost? The cost excluding shipping is $16.00 US. Like last time, payments may be made thru PayPal. When do I have to pay? Members will be contacted via PM and subsequently invoiced soon after they post in this thread for the cost of the caps ordered. What about shipping costs? Shipping costs are not included and will be invoiced prior to shipping. Shipping will be via US Priority Mail or US Priority International Mail. Insurance will be included. Due to the minimum shipping weight of 1 lb, members SHOULD be able to get up to 3 caps shipped for the same shipping costs as 1 cap. I use the word should because the weight for 3 in the box with only a thin plastic bag and a label is within .50 oz of being 1 lb. So the moral to the story is: BUY IN GROUPS OF TWO or THREE and save money on shipping. What about shipping outside the US? It can be done, but expect that the costs will exceed the cost of the cap. For example, the cost to ship 1 cap to Germany is approximately $30 US. Finland - the same. This is where you can save money by buying in multiples. If you live in the UK, I have a member who has offered to handle distribution there for me. Let me know if you are interested. When should I expect delivery? December 2011. Hopefully early December. Once I place the order everything is out of my hands until the product reaches my living room. (Here we go again!) Manufacturing is done overseas. The vendor is top notch. So let's go have fun, get some caps! Peter

Pre Ordering for the FOG edition baseball cap is now open. You can order yours by posting in this thread until 6:00 PM Eastern time on Sunday, October 9, 2011. I'm interested in one cap, preferably cheapest postal shipping to Toronto, Canada. If any other Toronto area woodworkers want to go in on this collectively to save on shipping costs, let me know. Thanks

Hi Peter, I'll take 3. Sure am unhappy to hear manufacturing is overseas. Would prefer it if the cap was US made and cost more. Unfortunately I realize buying US can be difficult these days. I'll stop before I go on a rant. Thanks, Markus

I guess that it tells you that people who attend classes should be snapping these up before they are gone. For those who haven't bought yet, even if you don't wear caps, just imagine how you will feel if you visit ebay in a couple of years and see one of these selling for twice what you could have bought it for. I would hate to see that happen. Buy a cap. Invest in your future! Peter

First: Hey Crazy! Welcome to the FOG! Personally I love your first post!
Everyone else - I can't list all of you - Thanks for believing in this. This isn't about the caps. This is about the forum to which you all contribute. You make this.
OK. Now buy more caps!

Remember, some of you have credits available from purchasing the last Fogtainers! You know who you are. If not, I do.
We haven't hit the first prize threshold yet. Keep going!

Thanks Leon and Skylar! Right now we are about 30 less than indicated in the poll. I am hoping that everyone is saving up for the last minute push!

I just have to say, these hats are darn cool looking, really! The reason I'm getting 3, not to outfit my mannequin army like some of you were thinking, but I plan on really wearing this thing and I know from previous hats I've liked wearing, they get dirty or worn out, so having 2 allows me to rotate, throw 'em in the wash, keep them around longer. The 3rd is getting stored away as a piece of FOG memorabilia. I know from Peter doing the FOGtainer run, there's only this set, the 2011 edition and dats dat. So, to all of you that thought I was nuts, hopefully this explains some of it. The rest might be revealed to a therapist at some point, not you guys.

Stay tuned. The Foggers are holding back and going for the frenzied finish! It was wild at the end of the Fogtainers ordering. Maybe there will be a surprise or two? Hmm...

Rumor has it that these hats help with metric / imperial conversions.
I can't swear to that, but stranger things have happened.

Nobody asked why "2011 Edition" is being printed? If we do a 2012 edition then for those who bought a 2011 then you will have a collection. If you miss out on this year's edition, then you will still have a great hat, but...
Hmmm....

If you bought a Fogtainer you should by a cap. Why? Because the logo is upside down if you wear a Fogtainer! Operators are standing by!

Sal,
The final number was 97.
The Go - No Go point was 90.
Thank you to everyone!
Now I will take this experience and use that as a tool for planning the next different Fogwear item in early 2012.

I have to say that I am pretty surprised by a below 100 number. I would have figured well above that considering price point and the fairly common use of caps by contractors. When considering that numerous people ordered multiples, the low total number seems even more surprising. Nonetheless, I'm glad Peter put this together and has made it a fun time.

...and considering we have over 11,000 registered members, it was surprising. Maybe they don't like hats or the economy has them concerned about purchases?

Guys,
This was great! The Fogtainer project was something that was unbelievably successful and defied all statistical models. This was more in line. The original poll indicated interest in 58. The latest poll was about 110. I always discount by 20%. Where were we? 97? I planned accordingly.
I have learned a lot from this. I will take that forward. The next item / items will be more popular but because of combinations and permutations I just couldn't do it right now.
Thank You FOGGERS!
Peter

P, Sorry I'm late to the dance, but I wanted to get a good count on how many I needed first. Hook me up with 7, please. Gracias -- and thanks for yet another cool FOG project. Shane

Because of the minimum order I have to place anyway, I will have some more available. If anyone is interested they should contact me via the personal mail system here on the FOG.
I am locking this thread so that there will not be confusion, but will unlock it and post announcements from time to time.
Thank You Again for your support!

Well,
If this one of Peter's projects...
Who would have known that embroidery has similar but different issues than printing on big plastic boxes.
I don't have time to post pictures here right now, but plan to tomorrow. Bottom line is that the digital mockups looked great, but once they sent me images of the actual stitching as a mock up to approve - I couldn't. History will prove that I may disappoint by delaying items, BUT I will work my but off to get good quality.
Pics and a new thread coming tomorrow for your input.
Peter

I really do appreciate the support guys but I tend to tread to the cautious side. I decided for neatness of the forum to just post here. Below you will see the digital image sent to me and then what I honestly feel is a better alternative. In discussions with the company, straight stitches in combination with small curves or italics don't make the stitching software happy. I guess that a carpenter wrote the software . Anyway, the only difference is that I am proposing is to reduce the number of green "holes" in the "O" to reduce the clutter. I would suggest getting rid of all of the holes except for the center hole but after playing with it I found it to lost the "pop" and it became boring to me. The actual dimensions of the large portion of the image is approximately 3.5 inches wide by 1 3/8 inches tall. The smaller holes are approximately somewhere around 1/8 inch in diameter. These images will also give an indication of the overall quality of the work. I anticipate that the final product will be slightly better than these images. Feel free to post your thoughts. __________________________ Image 1 - Original Image __________________________ Image 2 - Proposed Image PS. I am going to send an email to all the members who ordered notifying them of this thread and inviting their thoughts. Peter

Too many pieces of dust makes it look like a failed pattern is being attempted.

I've got no stake in this because I'm not ordering any caps, but being used to the FOG logo as it is, the picture with fewer holes doesn't seem genuine to me.

I like the 2nd proposed image, but I'd like the 'O' to be in Velcro so I can attach whatever RO 90 sandpaper suits me while working. Being able to just peel off new pieces from my hat would be very handy and also help promote Festool sandpaper as opposed to that "knock off" stuff being discussed.
Thanks Peter!

Thanks to everyone for their input - I REALLY wanted it. So far it is definitely going one way with the exception of Ken - he has always had a thing for velcro. I really hope that time zone different members will also want to also chime in.
Keep the comments coming! Pros and cons are welcome.

go with no 2. i looked at the pixs before reading the explination and didnt notice the lack of holes. the first 1 looks a bit clutered.
just think of it as going retro and back to the roots , going from the jetstreem pad to the older pad

Just to keep everyone up to date. I checked today with the vendor about anticipated delivery time. The change in the logo caused a delay and in that time several large orders popped ahead. It is currently anticipated that I should see the caps in my anxious hands the week of January 11.
This is not what I expected - but maybe I should have expected.
Thank goodness we beat the month long shut down of the plant due to a holiday!
I am really sorry guys.

Peter

The change was for the better, it is OK that delivery was pushed out.

That means I should have my caps in hand about two hours later, right?

The tools in my truck were talking the other day. The Dewalts, PC's, Boschs, Makitas were not happy. They also were in the minority. Their complaint: They felt unused and unappreciated since the Festools moved in. I guess the truth hurts.

Since it's going to be after Christmas, Santa's reindeer will be on the unemployment line. I'll just hire one of them to fly down and have be standing by to deliver my FogCaps the moment you receive them. Rudolph can do 2000 miles in a few minutes when you feed him enough candy cane.

Sounds good, Peter! Waiting patiently, no reindeer necessary, unless you want to stick some antlers on your postal workers.

WAIT! Doesn't the 2011 now make it a limited production collectors item?? If Peter signed them on the inside for authenticity, you could sell it on ebay (if you were willing to part with it), buy the new Domino and have $$ left over!

I can't make changes now. Sorry. But if autographing them makes them more "special" for the members...
