Im thinking Jesse might be right, I looked at the parts diagram and the screws for the phenolic plate they list as a qty of 8, count the holes on the phenolic and I count 8 ea. I did remove that black ring to change it with the chip collector black ring, So maybe thats its. Ill check EKAT to verify like scot suggested

ding ding ding we have a winner
jesse was right, I checked the parts like I said about it required 8 screws but the phenolic plate only has 6 holes and 2 for the black ring.
Went to Ekat like scott suggested and that screws part number is only for routers.
So Im about 99% positive the mystery of the found screw has been solved.
Thanks everyone for your help.
Im just happy it wasnt something that would could damage the tool
life is good

So it isnt one of those. its little ands silver / chrome in color, in imperial sizes I would say its a #6 or 8 size machine thread Yes it does drive me nuts You need to look at this as an opportunity to buy something new for your shop and help you to identify the screw. http://www.leevalley.com/en/hardware/page.aspx?p=64800&cat=3,41306http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=69376&cat=51&ap=2

DF 500 Q, HL850E-Plus, CT22, 5 systainers and several accessories. I'm just a rank Festool beginner, but I'm trying hard. Oh yeah, now that I own a FOG hat 2011 edition, I guess I'm not such a beginner anymore.

I have now (thankfully) rusticated my Jet table saw and now only use my fantastic CMS-TS55R combination. A few days after getting the Jet I found a dowel bushing on the floor under the machine. With things like table saws the last thing you want to find is anything that is designed to keep important bits together. It took me a complete day to strip the thing down and it turned out it was used to hold the height adjusting handle on its shaft.
Flat pack furniture can be worse of course!

Dunno - haven't heard of anyone losing a hand assembling IKEA shelves Kev The problem is when you either have too few or too many bits/connectors/screws... If you have too many then you worry that you have assembled it incorrectly. If you have too few then you are screw** anyway! Peter

What drives me crazy (a short drive - my wife loves to point out) is when a manufacturer thinks he's doing you a favor by throwing in a couple of extra screws without mentioning that in the instructions. I always go back a couple of times to make sure I haven't missed anything and still fear that the darned thing will blow up when I turn it on.

I hate the manufacturers that supply less fasteners than needed! Peter
