The shower tray was also fitted before i tiled the floor so I tiled up to the shower tray to make it look more slim lined.

Jmb

Hi jmb,

No the way it should be done is that you tile the top of the ply box then you can lower the bath down into the hole and the rim of the bath should sit slightly off the tiles supported by its legs not the tiles. This leaves you with a neat joint under the bath rim which is sealed with silicone. Then once the bath is connected and tested the front of the ply can be tiled, usually an access panel is left ie one tile is stuck with silicone so it can be removed.

Ive done a few built in baths in the 20+ years ive been a joiner I hope I know what im doing lol.

Chris

JMB,
JMB,

JMB,

Well you see a few reasons!

1. The bath only cost me 40quid from BnQ because it was damaged! Well gues where the damage was! On the side I have against the wall!

2. I don't like the curve I actually hate it so having it It in the corner kinda hides it but 40quid is nothing as the bath was worth £300 or more. It's a very deep bath. I have sunk the bath into the floor otherwise you would have to try and hurdle over the bath.

Well I always seen tiles go onto the bath better water seal so are you saying  should I of tiled the front top of the bath first then put the bath on to of the tiles i then tile the back wall so the tiles go on top of the bath

I wasn't sayin u didn't know.  Just I was not sure if you was on about all the tiles or just on the boxing.  So I agree with u on the boxing just not on the Walls as I have always seen bath in first then the Tile the Walls on to the bath.  I prefer flush look though so I did it the wrong way Tongue Out.  I did say in my previous post wat do you mean tile the lot then do the bath or just the boxing.

Oh I didn't use the legs on my bath legs are crap hey lift the bath to high. The boxing at the front supports the bath and a frame right around the bath supports the bath and I made my own supports under the bath and sunk the bath in to the floor joist  the bath is actually about 5inch lower than the tiled floor height.  If I had used legs e bath would of been 10 inch higher if it was sat on the floor.

i normlly fit the bath test it all then box it in leaving the correct gap for a tile to slide under the rim of the bath. I try not to use ply either as i had a delaming issue on a job(nothing major) so always use a tile backing board now for piece of mind and i believe it is a much better job

Yes I have done that before left the boxing low to slide the tiles under suppose the same as tile before then putting the bath in. I would not like to just tile the top leave the rest then put the bath in then tile the rest of the bath room like every one says (joiner1970) because you would have to work out where your tiles on the Walls are going or floor maybe to make sure your are inline with the wall when they get tiled. Suppose it depends how big your boxing is an how much if that was a problem or not.

I never said my way was the right way! Just a nicer way Tongue Out in my opinion.

Get things straight!

lol

I did the bathroom as cheap as I could with out trying to compromise on looks!

So I got a cheap bath I hate the rounded corner but it saved me a lot of money as I wanted a large deep bath which normally are not cheap.
I dont love the shower enclosure to much metal! I prefer just glass! I wanted a walk in shower just not got the room really.
I dont like the edge of bath showing so I sunk it into my boxing so I could tile up the the edge (apparently the wrong way Tongue Out) give a sleeker look
The tiles well they are okay I wanted these other tiles but they where like £28 per metre. These only cost me £14/15 per square metre
I am not happy with the grout lol but it does look okay!

Basically I hate being on a budget! If I had the money to spend I would of done and got a few things different! Bath is one of them!

I like the Toilet! Oh and I like the sink! that was only £40quid!

I do like the bathroom dont get me wrong just I couldnt get what I wanted!  I also wanted LEDS in the insets on the walls but just time and money to put them in.

overall turned out okay!  My girlfriend LOVES it thinks it amazing! So thats all good lol!

Yeahj thats another way I have done them as well I dont get involved too much I just do the boxing for the plumber. I can plumb and I can tile very well if I do say so myself but when Im on a new build we have plumbers and tilers so I dont need to do any of that. Regarding the plywood we have never had a problem with delaminating but a lot of the time we do use wedi board or cement board as it is a better job.

I think they are the same parent company who do Moben kitchens and always sub the work out.

I hear they pay very poor rates and consequently only get fitters that cant get work anywhere else.

I suppose if that is right then the tilers are of a similar breed.

Yeah and Sharpes bedrooms another bunch of rip off merchants.

I felt sick when she said what she was paying for it. Sadly she would have used us but she didnt know us when she booked Dolphin. They tried to get her to book the kitchen in with them as well but luckily for me she didnt. I finished her kitchen Friday, built her a new master bedroom made up from two beds knocked into one with an entertainment wall, plasma tv etc, walk in wardrobe to do and they want us to fit out their new offices at the company they own. So not a bad little job  Big Grin

I prefer Cement board over ply!  I think ply around a bath is fine though never had a problem! The company I use to work for ALWAYS used ply even in the shower enclosure! Well I never agreed with that! I always said we need cement board but it was just dismissed.  It was crap using ply in a shower enclosure always had to pack the plasterboard to get it flush with the ply because they only wanted to use ply in the shower area and plasterboard the rest then plaster it!   I always thought because one was plasterboard and other was ply it might crack the tiles or grout as they would move differently two difference surfaces but it didnt.  On my own jobs I only use cement board and often tank the shower area.

I was working for a company at the time so did not really have time to do my mums bathroom but I did end up doing it any way! This was because we had dolphin to come and price to do the bathroom they wanted £25000  Scared My dad was like £20 000 you have a deal!  My mum went mad and said you thing im stupid are takin the P I dont wanna pay more than £15000 the Dolphin sales men was like no chance can we do it for that price!

My mum said well your ridiculous no way can you justify that price he was sayin its all high quality stuff and everything the sales man eventually said he would do it for £18 000! Well my Dad jumped in and said  DEAL my mum was not happy as she thought she could get them down to £15000 so my Dad was in the bad books!

Any way they said 2 weeks and they could start when they have all the stuff in 2 days later they said the tiles you have chosen we can not get hold of them we have these others very similar!  My mum said no if you cant get the tiles I chose then I want my deposit back they said they would knock £1000 of the price but my mum said no if im paying that much I want what I want they eventually sent her refund.

Crazy prices Dolphin are CRAP

You wouldnt mind paying the money if it was high quality but its not , i watched this guy using ordinary plasterboard to clad all the boxing for the cistern etc before he tiled, a complete cowboy. The woman was told by dolphin it would take 19 man days to do it which is ridiculous , the fitter did it in a week.

New! New!  New!   And Gues what its GERMAN made!

I think I might aswell live in Germany!  All the stuff I buy is always German lol!  Apart from some ladders I just ordered from Rex Crystals!  I wanted the Zargers cus all my steps are Zargers and they are MINT BUT these tripple ladders by zargers weighed 36KG and the UK brand Lyte are 28Kg and £80 cheaper so.
I caved in and went with the UK brand I gotta support UK  Tongue Out no really it was the weight the Zargers where just to heavy really plus the Lyte are shorter but also extend longer so just seem all round better larder for the money.

I was also told the zarger parts where made by lyte for the UK and for how much I would actually use triple ladders they dont have to be as heavy duty.

Any way BACK to the NEW NEW! I have a NEW Tow Bar lol!

I know its nothing exciting but dont it look sexy?!

edited: I forgot to mention the hole! Its where my reversing Camera goes but  He had to remove my rear bumper completely so the camera had to come of aswell because as you can see the main bar runs inside the bumper so he also had to cut the bumper he did it all at my place so that was handy!  I just aint got round to putting the camera back on yet because the bar is in the way now to tighten the nut behind the camera so I gotta think of another way to fix it back I told him I would do it as he was going to fix it onto the bumper then fit the bumper but then I wouldnt be able to get my camera back off with out removing the entire bumper again because I broke to camera so it doesnt always work properly so I need to replace it really so I would like to take remove it easilly when I replace it.

darn jmb you got a money tree in your back yard!
I did 2 installs for moben worst experience of my working life! They charge the customers ludicrous sums and pay their fitters peanuts, my installs were top notch i struggled to make any money out of my moben fits but i made sure the customers were happy! Never again tho avoid at all costs...

Hey JMB,  congrats on your new tow bar  haha!    Tell me how that thing stays locked in the socket.  I can't make out the diagrams in the pictures.   Just curious cause here in the states we have a very caveman yet reliable connection for the hitch. It's just some steel square stock for the hitch and fits into a larger piece of square stock on the tow bar.  The two are  secured together with a steel through pin.   So do tell.  It's cool look'n.   Smiley

Very simple actually I think.

It has a tapered bar  inside which moves back and forth when I push the lever into the red stone back into the green zone.   Their are 3 balls you can see 2 on top in the picture and 1 underneath.  Well when I push the leaver forward the bar inside moves back and the balls fall down flush.  This then allows me to push the tow bar into place.  Inside the bracket on my can it has a groove for the balls to go into. When I release the lever a spring forces the lever back and the rod forward the rod pushes the balls outwards into the groove.  Their is no way The tow bar could come of now as the Walls can not retract while the bar is behind them pushing them outwards.  It feels very solid no movement at all.

Plus you can see the green section is half way well when fitted the lever only goes part way on the green so it's constantly trying to tighten up while it's on.  It comes with a key so the leaver can not be pushed passed green into to the red area where it would release.

yo Paul

What price are you talking for these?   The MultiCam Nestedbase is about 63 000 I think cnt remember for sure.

So a much lower price would be GREAT! lol  I want it to make units so holes to be drilled from above and from the side would be nice for easy assembling.

Whats your setup like?  You got any accessories for it?

Cheers

JMB,

If you are making nested cabinets you cannot do horizontal drilling unless you reposition the panels that require horizontal drilling, that causes problems
with repositioning accuracy.  I produce nested cabinets and use Rafix fittings from Hafele that do not require horizontal drilling.
For pricing check the website for their price list, I have a10 x 5 with two spindles and a drilling head, their tool changer is about £10,000  but was not available when I bought mine.

There are about 7000 Shopbots around the World, even people like Boeing use them for cutting components, also the Shopbot support is second to none.

What size of operation do you have (manpower and workshop size)  ?

Any other question , just ask
