I'm planning to buy a Kapex. I have a Bosch TracRac T3B miter saw stand. Is it compatable with the Kapex saw?

With a piece of 3/4" plywood, anything can be made "compatible" with any other thing.  We're using our Kapex on a DeWALT miter stand. If you, or anyone, is interested, I'll ask one of the guys to snap a picture. |

Steve, That's even better than the one we did. I like the workarea around the Kapex your design provides.  All we did was cut a decent size piece of 3/4" ply, bolt the Kapex to the ply and then the ply to the mounts on the DeWALT stand. Hey Shane...! Could you add DeWALT to the spell checker? Thanks. |

I think you can mount the KAPEX direct.. I had the DeWALT and it has to sections that clip onto the main stand. In these two sections there is a slot allowing you to slide a bolt.. so you get the width spacing as the two sections are seperately attached to the main stand.. and the front to back spacing with the slots. The KAPEX base has holes for 4 bolts. That the DeWALT which like I said takes the kappex direct, and whats handy is that the sections that bolt to the KAPEX base and clip to the stand have rubber feet so you can use the KAPEX on the floor. Looking at the Bosch.. in this picture it looks like the same arrangment.. the 4 studs looks like they can move back and forth and the two sections holding the stud can move independantly to accomodate the width  |

I cut two pieces of 3/4" ply and bolted them to my Ridgid MSUV, then attached the kapex to the plywood. I hate the MSUV but at least it makes the Kapex portable. Currently working on extensions that will work with the stand and give me support plus fences and adjustable stops. Will post when I get the darn thing done. |

We had one of those HD MSUV's but let it go with the DeWALT 708  we sold in order to fund the purchase of the Kapex. This is how we wound up (re)using the DeWALT miter stand. It came with the 708 but we used the HD unit instead. I agree, it was not the best portable mount station but it worked well enough that we felt we got our monies worth; $79.00. Mounted my Kapex on a old Rigid miter saw stand. Used the Festool crown stop extensions to add material support and measurement to each side of the Kapex.   |

WonderWino, are you mostly a stationary guy or a transporter type? I have T3B as well. Yeah it weighs in with the saw at 100+#, but it does have wheels (that I rarely use) if one MUST move both pieces together. and sometimes the extensions get gummy but it has never been an issue for me except for 'long jobs', maybe transport shakes out the crud. And although a little wobbly, I have never had issue with setting up a stop and using them for repetitive cuts. I do wish it was a foot or so shorter when collapsed so that it would fit across the width of my truck instead of having to go in lengthwise A trick I picked up along the way originally from a DeWalt stand to solve the perpetually slipping risers on the extensions, is to bottom them out in adjustment and then build them back up with wood blocks. On my own stand I went so far as to bevel the inboard side of the block and add a ramp to it. Very nice when dealing with long flimsy stock like MDF speed base, or even door casing. |

Harry, I use it mostly outside the shop, so it gets moved almost every time I use it. I'm not a full-time carpenter, I just rehab properties as a "hobby."  The wheels are so small they only work well on smooth surfaces and the narrow axle makes it unstable it you run over a grain of sand.  I like the idea of lighter weight and wider stance the Festool setup has. I still wonder why they haven't paired the kapex with the UG as a package deal.  |
