I just had a conversation with my wife yesterday where I essentially said that I wasn't looking to buy any festool stuff for a while. This could make me a liar.

I thought with the announcement through, I might be able to get calmer on the purchasing front. ;)

But this thing looks NICE!

They are COOL!  Saw them back in the fall.  I did not play with them.  These types of things I need to have in my hands for a bit and then go over them at my own time and speed.

This type of connection is hardly a novelty. IMHO the greatest advantage of the DF700 connector set is that both tenons and connectors are installed with the same tool making it accurate and quick. With the new set you have to juggle between DF, drill, and a drilling jig. Still nice, but not as nice as the old set. Also, seems only for 90/180 deg. joints (look at the drilling jig). Could have simply made it a mini version of the old connectors.

Not quite. The connector itself (part with the set screw) is round and sits in a round hole.

Well thought out solution.  Great solution to a challenge.  Near full proof design.  Sort of expensive.  But likely a big time saver.  In other words, typical Festool kit.  Count me in assuming this is NAINA (not available in North America).

People have been asking for this for a while and it was discussed that it wouldn't be practical because of the size of the 500 mortises. Now it's here and I see complaints about needing a drill and jig. Can't have it all.

If it takes a little longer to do the operation(s) to get a take-down assembly I don't see the issue. Sure beats the alternative of not being able to take apart and re-assemble.

Isn't this actually easier than the setup for the 700? I've never personally used the larger connector system, but it seems like you have to adjust the plunge and fence depths between doing the mortise and setting the access hole. This removes the need to switch between two depths on your domino, not to mention the fact that the drill jig is self centering as opposed to needing to scribe a line around a corner. I also prefer the circular access holes, seems like you could probably make some nice wooden plugs rather easily.

For domino 500!
Even better: as I read the label on the systainer it's 'D8', which means it should work with both Domino 500 and 700XL.
(I would be very surprised should Festool have designed it to only work with the 500)

By the looks of it they recycled the general form of the domino systainers, just made the trays more shallow as it's only a SYS-1 (the existing ones are SYS-2) - hopefully that systainer will be made available on it's own as I would like to have some of them to replace the bigger ones (which are to big for my needs, but not big enough to compress the full 4-14 mm range into one) I have to save some space when taking the domino to a job.

Downside is the price point: >2€ per connector dosn't make it that attractive, compared to existing systems.

+1. Even though I don't foresee using this kind of fastener myself, it offers an option and ultimately it enhances the value of the tool.

This kind of connector also looks stronger than the typical IKEa stuff.

Another option is the Sys-Combi.  I keep my 500 in a Sys2-Combi.  The SYS2 was getting really tight with all the accessories.  The combi drawer, though a little smaller than a SYS1, adds a good amount of room for accessories/tenons that I might need on the go.
Current systainer to productivity ratio:  very high

I think I will stick to my usual method of jointing with a few Domino's and a few screws.
This system is not only an expensive option but would take longer to do also.
While I like the look of this system and the previous one for the DF700 the initial cost of kit and cost of parts is a deal breaker.

Rob.
Problem? No such thing! Only a solution waiting to be found:- RJ

Which would have the downside of having to obtain a DF 500 (as I have a 700XL) ;)

That's the kicker - how expensive/fast will it be in comparison to existing cam and dowel systems (and I'm already jigged up for them)

Hopefully I will get a chance to see them first hand in action on Thursday.    I have seen them and examples of what they produced already.  If so I will let you guys know.

I have been waiting to see if and when these came out.  I personally think that these will get traction in the market of smaller shops or those who may only occasionally have a need if they are already accustomed to using the Domino on a regular basis and if they already use the LR-32 for limited runs of 32 mm holes.  Adding onto a system that you are already accustomed to might be more appealing than buying the stand alone jigs for doing the conventional cam knockdown fittings.

That systainer set does look really nice! I have just never seen myself having a need to build any knock down furniture.

In packages of 4 - 8 connectors, this would make sense for me. I can’t see ever using the volume that Festool offers in their base package.

Just when I thought I can give my bank account a day off and they come up with this.

With a son in the Marines and a daughter going in the Coast Guard, this my be the ticket to make knock down furniture for them. If its easly to assemble and disassemble when they move.

Ill wait and see what the price of the kit will be to determine how qickly ill run out and buy one.

I can see Sedge and Steve scratching their heads on how to work this into their training regimen.
