I just joined the Festool family with a TS 55 and an RO 90. I don't have any regrets with either other than I can't believe I waited this long, although I shouldn't complain, I'm only 19. The guy who sold them to me seemed a bit jealous of me when I walked out of the store. I used the TS for the first time today and it was awesome, way better than my table saw for dealing with sheet goods. And the RO 90 out performs my PC 5" random orbit. I can't wait to add to my collection.

My son is 17. Yesterday I had him screwing some truss brace plates with a big old 18 volt Hitachi Nimh driver (about 40 plates with 8 screws in each). With only a couple to go the battery drained. I could have given him the spare - but instead I let him try the Ti15. It was a real Kodak moment ... with a probable caption competition to follow ! Anyway - he'll no doubt aim for quality tools as he progresses. Congrats Devon - looking forward to you teaching the old dogs some tricks  |

Welcome Devon! Not many of us youngsters here on FOG!
Im afraid your going to have to make another costly spend on the Green stuff straight away (unless your using a Vac already)! If not then even though your saying you like the RO90 im afraid the RO90 doesnt work very well with out a Vac attached to it or should I say works 10x better with a vac attached to it making you love it even more!
The TS55 can be used with out a VAC but again you will prefer it with a Vac cus your not cleaning your rail of all the time when it gets covered in dust for your next cut as the dust build up stops your saw from gliding! Also you dont need to keep blowing the dust of the top of the sheet before you place the rail back down again when doing another cut cus the dust stops the rail from sticking to the board.

In the past and currently apprentices get told (well I did) to use handsaws and hand planes when they are learning on certain jobs instead of using power tools.
Well in the future it will be apprentices have to use a regular circular saw and power plane and then they can use a plunge track saw so you can appreciate a tool which can give you a clean and prefect cut in one go.

I did also get a CT 26, It was hard to justify a $500 shop vac but now I understand why. I used it to vacuum my car this weekend and I was really impressed as I did a side by with a standard 6.5 HP Shop Vac. The CT was much more efficient and quieter. Now that I have the main component to the Festool tools, I don't know what to add next. As a cabinet maker I'm thinking about the MFT3 but the domino seems like that would be sweet too. Any thoughts?

Hey Devon,
Undoubtedly you will get the MFT3 and the Domino eventually, but the MFT3 is a critical component of the system which becomes far more efficient with it than without it. I vote strongly for that being next.

Devon - welcome. Since you are new and young, will give you a little slack on this one but general practice is to prove such an awesome purchase by providing pictures. MFT or Domino? Thats a tough one. If you have an adequate bench to work on and something to do your cutting on. I'd go Domino next.

Oh Devon, we don't use the "or" word here. Just the "and" word. You really need to ask yourself how many MFT3's ... and which Domino first (500 or 700XL). You also need to plan your KAPEX wedding day |

Welcome Noah - Noah eh? Very appropriate for the weather we've been having. How are you finding the VS600? There's a couple of Festools I'm having "trigger trouble" with. One is the VS600 ... the other Precisio. I've been waiting for my local Festool guy to be in a position to demo the VS600 to me. (the Precisio question is more a CMS? Precisio? Table Saw? kinda thing) I'd be wanting to create exposed decorative dovetails as well as the hidden functional variety and I'm not convinced the VS600 is useful for anything but the latter. Comments appreciated. Kev. |

kev. At the moment i am only using my vs600 for through dovetail joints. i can say that i am very pleased with the results but the limitations to the size of the dovetails is my only issue.

glad to see both the OP and Noah getting off to the right start... to the OP, I would recommend an MFT/3 and a OF1400 next, THEN the Dominos, and yeah, you're going to want BOTH Domino's, unless you're focusing on a very specialized product.
I've been using the XL700 for a few weeks now, and if I had to pick one or the other, I'd definitely keep the 700 over it's little brother, but I couldn't afford to be without either, now that I am used to using them

I definitely agree, Shane should take note.  And since I'm going to school to be a cabinetmaker it would be nice if you would offer a student discount. You gave my school a discount a few years back when they bought 2 dominos and two Ro125s and some other accessories and such. |

I don't want to seem negative on this suggestion, but it's something that could easily be misused. For example, I could just get my son to buy my tools. A very limited "tool scholarship", based on some demonstrated achievements, is a better model and more likely to be adopted by a corporate such as Festool. I also think that Festool needs to invest in some form of global loyalty program - I'd at least be eligible for a Festool Plantinum card by now  Points to give your workshops, merchandise ... etc. Kev. |

I'm in the first year and we have covered set up and use of 5 headed moulders, basic machinery operation (I thought that was mostly a waste of time), finishing, laminating, materials, and blueprint (shop drawing) reading, auto cad. Next year we learn furniture design and fabrication, solid surface countertops, Cnc programming and operation, metric and frameless cabinetry. |

I've added more to my Festool collection. I'm now at 8 tools and I am ever impressed by their quality. Last weekend I had a kitchen install 4 hours from home and my tools and boy was I glad I had my TS 55 with as one of the dimensions for the cases was 3 1/2" too long. This weekend I added the PS 300 jigsaw after deciding that my Makita wasn't quite doing it for me any more after cutting out 2 sink holes last weekend. Haven't had a chance to use it but I cannot wait. Spring break is next week so hopefully I'll have some time to take it for a test drive. I cannot wait to add more to my collection, I think a CMS and a drill are on the list now.
