OF2200 with CT36 Dust Collection Review
« on: April 20, 2017, 08:24 AM »
Holy cow, Batman!  No dust gets out of the router with the CT36 attached.

I've done a bunch of routing with the CT36 where is was sitting on top of the work piece. no outside edges.  One hose attached to the top hose connector.  Virtually no dust got out.

Just finished an edge routing task 18mmx18mm rabbet on the edge of a workbench top to breadboard the ends, using the edge guide.  27mm hose attached to the top hose connector.  Mistake - pretty darn messy.

Did the same edge routing task using the edge guide with 27mm hose attached to the top hose connector -and- 36mm hose connected to the edge guide hose connector.  Both hoses were connected to the splitter on my CT36.  Virtually no dust got out.

For someone who does a lot of woodworking inside on cold Colorado days, it's awesome.  My router table has good dust collection, but it's not big enough to handle 1.5" thick 2'x6' benchtop.  This opens up new possibilities for routing inside.

I'm totally impressed with the quality of the Festool design on this one.

The DC on the OF2200 is indeed amazing.  I've never tried the split hose method on the edge routing, but will give it a whirl next time I have to do that operation.

Have said this many times ----
The OF2200 is an incredible piece of machinery. I stopped using my 1400 after getting this. Dust collection is amazing and the accessory kit gives you so many options for controlling that. Even with the dust collection dodads I still have good vision of the cut. It is so smooth and stable - the additional weight really helps when you hit a dense area in the material as the router just keeps moving smoothly. The power allows deep one pass cuts as it will brute force it's way through.

It just feels so good in my hands - solid, stable, smooth, powerful, controllable. The soft start is the best of any router I have used. It never jerks or moves in unexpected ways. Depth control and tool adjustments are marvelous. Just gives a complete feeling of confidence of my control even though it has all that power.

The only type job I wouldn't use it for is one where I would have to continuously pick up and move its position as it does weigh a lot! Thankfully there is the 1010 for that.

Harvey I have a CT36 but I'm not familiar with any splitter set up. Can you explain and/or post a photo?

Thanks,

Len

I love the Festol CT's, but the dust collection with the OF2200 has little  to do with the collector attached to it.

All you need to do is hook the OF2200 to a 50.00 shop vac to prove that. Any  old Vac gets all 95% to near 100% of the dust(depending on application of cut) with the OF2200.

Now I am waiting for an update to the OF2200. Come on its near 10 years old  and 2017.  We need a powerful built in LED light ring with intensity and shade control and a 4 point clamp to hold the extension rods instead of the two point. Then it would be the perfect router instead of just the best router it is now.
The one who says it can't be done should avoid interrupting the person doing it.

Thanks Harvey.  Have you tried doing edge routing using only the dust collection hose attached to the edge guide?  In my experience that captures almost all the dust, and a second hose on top is not necessary.
