VACUUM HOSE With SLEEVE 500940
« on: October 01, 2015, 07:57 PM »
Hi,
I see that there's a new hose with a power cord and sleeve to protect the cord and hose from snagging. GREAT IDEA! But, it costs $500.00 here in Canada. As much as some of the tools!
Since we have hoses, and cords, is it possible to just get the sleeve to use with our existing materials? That would be really helpful. I don't want to spend that kind of money when I have 2 of the three elements already. This would be helpful and practical. And please if you make the sleeve available separately, don't price it so it's almost the same as the full kit...that would not be right.

Hi $500 does sound very steep, its $300 down here for the 3.5m, but thats basic without a systainer. It's my understanding that the sleeve as yet can not be bought seperately.

In the states the 3.5m in a sys3 is $250.  The pricing doesn't seem bad when you price it out individually.

The 500940 sleeve is unique to that particular hose, which is tapered.  If you'd like to pick up something decent to keep your existing hose(s) from snagging, there was an earlier post on the FOG describing Techflex Gorilla Sleeve, which you can order by the foot for $2.99 US through ToolNut.  I bought an 8' section a few weeks ago and it's great. Feed the hose through it (push a small section of the material together to widen the diameter, and gradually palpitate down the hose small sections at a time).  Took about 15 minutes or so. Trim the (now) frayed ends and use electrical tape to secure the ends and keep them from fraying more.  It's made of very stiff woven nylon threads that expand and contract to give a fairly tight fit to the hose. Here's the link:

https://www.festoolproducts.com/Techflex-Gorilla-Sleeve-1-Length-p/nhn1.htm?utm_campaign=map&utm_medium=email&utm_source=yotpo&yotpo_token=54fab66123c21cd8c757cd4be3b2b7d6fcbfaf6d

Far cheaper to get this stuff than a hose covered in fabric. Save your money, or put it toward another tool. It accomplishes the same thing, and at some point, it would be nice to fall back toward function over form/color/feeling awesome becasue we spent a lot of money. Don't get me wrong, I have green drink in my glass too, but $2.99/foot to reduce getting caught on the edges of your bench and projects sounded a whole lot more appealing to me. With the money I didn't spend on a hose/fabric sleeve that I didn't need, I bought an RO 90.

500940 is 10m long US$375 or C$495. Converting that to C$ is $500 at today's exchange rate.
500276 is 3.5m long in a sys3 US$250 or C$331 (C$333 at today's rate).

So the Canadian prices are exactly the same as the US prices adjusted for the FX rate.

Will this 1' Techflex Gorilla Sleeve work on a 36mm hose ?

Shane might be able to shed more light on that as I think it was his post, but I believe it will.  I stretched it pretty far (maybe out to 36mm?), and it retracted back in place.  Keep in mind that if it does fit the 36 mm hose (again, I'm uncertain about that…), you'll need to order a much longer length than the section you'd like to cover.

From the web page:
"Note - 1' of Gorilla Sleeve Tech Flex hose covers approximately 10" of CT Dust Extractor hose. Be sure to order approximately 14' to cover the entire length of your 11' standard Festool Dust Extractor Hose."

Hope this helps. You might search the FOG for earlier threads to see if anyone had problems with the larger hose.

It won't work ,1" will only expand to 1 1/4 max (32mm) .1 1/2 sleeve will work on with a 36mm hose .

Just keep in mind, that as the Flexo expands in diameter, it also shortens in length. For a  11 1/2' 27mm hose I think i used 17' of Flexo braid.

I use heat shrink tubing to finish off the ends of the Flexo. A much neater appearance than electrical tape.

In Europe it is possible to get the sleeve as spare part, so I see no reason why Canada and USA shouldn't get it.

But it is for the D27/22x3,5 AS-GQ hose, which is a hose that tapers from 27 to 22 mm. Since this is smaller than the standard 27 mm hose there's a chance it doesn't fit. This product is so new that nobody has tried it yet.

Here in Holland, the sleeve as spare part costs €82, while the full hose is €198.

I'd look at the Gorilla sleeve instead.

I think it's partly one of those situations where the price for this just seems rather excessive. I mean, I love Festool as much as the next guy, I've had the cool-aid, but there are somethings where you just say, "really?!" a vacuum hose which costs as much as say, a Carvex. Did it really cost that much to make them? I sometimes wonder if there is just a bigger profit margin here, because it's a high level machine. For somethings, yes: the kapex, or track saws, the machines themselves are state of the art, top of the line amazing machines....but sometimes, for the accessories, which are so similar to other things, like the makita tracks for example and some clamps....there's a big difference: the label.
What's that gorilla sleeve number again?

Oh yes, there's a huge mark up on Festools, especially accessories. When I bought my DTS400 for €296 the dealer threw in €76 in free accessories. Of course it didn't cost €76 to him, but he could do it and still make a profit. And then there's the powered brush Festool sells for their vacs for €120, which only costs €50 at my local vac shop without the green label.

I find these new sleeves way too expensive for what you get and what they should cost, given the materials used.

I'm interested in the 3.5m hose with sleeve and plug it cable, the price doesn't seem excessive over the normal hose in that length. So it's in my shopping basket..

Yes I got the hose a couple of weeks ago. It fits my  RS 300 EQ with the old style oval dust port, and the RO 90 with the new style round dust port.. The actual inner diameter of nozzle on the hose is 27mm. The fitting on the other end is the standard CT vac size 55 mm outer diameter.

The sleeve with the plug it cable is very loose fitting on the hose, so it doesn't constrict the freedom of movement in the least.. The hose seems to be lighter weight than a standard 27mm hose, as expected as it's  tapered down to 22mm

The sleeve material is extremely lightweight but very strong with  woven thread like a tough cordura, I feel it will stand the test of time under heavy usage..

Incidentally I bought the 27 muffe so I can join my standard 27mm hose to the sleeved hose for a total of 7 meter working length..

Thanks for your answer:) Also found this:  https://www.festool.com/Products/Accessories/Pages/Detail.aspx?pid=456745&name=Hand-sanding-block-with-dust-extraction-D-22x3-5m-AS

Seems like the RO´s aren´t mentioned. Wonder if the airflow gets to small.

That hose should work fine with the RO sanders too. I think the emphasis is just being placed on the flexibility for the lighter weight, finish, and more maneuverable sanders.

Ive used it for the past week and a half with several sanders.  I have the RO 90 and 125.  I assumed I'd have less dust pick up, but so far it is just as good as with the standard hose.

Im using the 26 vac, with the boom arm.  I added a custom aluminum hook I made up from 1/4" by 1" 6061 aluminum, that I can hang the hose from when not being used.

For me, $500 is pricey, but the main work bench in my shop is 48" by 96" - and we do a lot of sanding of large panels, cabinets etc on it.  Having the ability to work all around the table/bench without moving the vacuum and/or readjusting the work is a big plus.  Will be worth the cost just in making life easier on a daily basis for me and my two employees.

I agree, but I wish Festool would have articulated that point better at product roll-out time. Maybe it was just me, but I certainly didn't make the connection, I just wanted a hose with a cord and a cover (500276) so I purchased it and attached it to the CT in the basement that I use for the track saw and Domino. It worked fine but it was no big deal.

Actually it was @Brice Burrell suggestion that I compare the new 500276 hose to the regular Midi hose I was using on the ETS EC 125/3 for sanding drywall in a long narrow bathroom remodel. It was at that moment, that it became readily apparent how much more flexible the tapered 22/27 mm hose is. The new hose just doesn't fight back like the original hose does when sanding walls and in narrow spaces. It will be my go-to hose for all future sanding projects.   [thumbs up]

Bringing this back to life now that Festool has announced their new hoses. None of the sleeve with plug-its are listed on the Festool site. Are they discontinuing this or is there an update? Maybe sleeve only addition that we can use new hoses with and exiting plug-it cords?

Anyone have any new updates on this?
