I saw the ad in the classifieds recently,  and it reminded me:  "OHHH!  yup,   that's the bench I had been meaning to buy last year..."   well,  in that "Last Year"  the distributor ceased to exist,  and no one sells them in the US  -Woodcraft clearanced out their remaining inventory  at a phenomenally low pricing schedule..  mmm  hmmm...   I've waited too long.

SO!  I contacted the manufacturer.   and what I found was that it is not cost effective to buy ONE Walko bench,  but 5+ benches at a time shipped by sea,  and they are quite reasonable.

I want one or two.   anyone else interested in ganging up on a purchase?
They can be shipped into the Port in Miami (takes a couple days to get the order out,  30-35days by sea and a few days - a week or so on the docks for customs to make sure nothing prohibited is being brought across our borders.)  looks like a month and a half to me,  but totally reasonable considering there is really no other way to get a NEW one.

Looking to buy: RO150EQ+ ; LR32 guide rails, 3000mm guide rail, parallel guide set   ;  another TS55 to replace the 1 I sold...   OF1010 and additional Festool Routers ;  RS2  ;    and a FESTOOL BS105 BELT SANDER SET
OK, let's face it, I'm always looking for any Festools / accessories.

There is a Walko 3 for sale in the classifieds in Chicago area.

I have one and it's a great table and compliment to the MFT3

I haven't used mine a ton but it has been a lifesaver when I have. I feel like I have just scratched the surface of possibilities with it. It was a birthday gift from my wife. Right now she is using it for potting plants.  Huh?! On one side (high) she does it standing up and when she gets tired she uses the other side sitting down (lower).

I never really tuned in back when there were a few (several?) U.S. dealers selling the Walko benches -- what advantages do they offer over other folding benches say the MFT or the Benchmark http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006077BOA/ref=ox_sc_act_image_7?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER ?  I haven't looked a a Benchmark in real life but if the quality is there it should be a very useful folding bench.

the walko 3 will cut 8x4 foot sheets easily with an overhang, the walko 4 will be easier.
it serves as both a cutting table and an assambly/ work table.

Ive been looking at the bench mark. The base unit is roughly 400 bucks the basic MFT is about 500 bucks.

But the benchmark can be used to cut a 4x8 sheet of ply. Im loking at the dimensions and Im thinking with the adjustments I should be able to adjust it to the same height of a MFT.

Like I said Im looking hard at it.

The prices I have seen on the internet are $900+ for the 3 (loaded) and $1,200+ for the 4. Definitely going to be pricier than the Benchmark or MFT but it is a very different animal.

I did get a response from Walko, they indicated that they would do a one-time shipment if I dealt with customs. I have an acquaintance retired from that business that I can probably enlist to help me through this.

So far no other details from Walko but I will get it figured out and then post the summary here. What I am envisioning is a Woodpecker-ish one-time deal, give everyone XX days to commit and then, assuming there is enough volume to meet their minimums, make a consolidated order.

More to follow once I get some specifics.

It would be great if they were. I can't find pricing anywhere in North America so I based that comment on AU pricing (which is admittedly typically higher) so I could be all wrong, in a pleasant way. I hope so.

Here is the AU info:

I bought the Walko-4 from him and it was around $680; I got the set that included the struts, which I found to be very useful.  Woodcraft cleared out the few they had left at those were upper $300, which was a steal.

Hi Guys

I was talking to the owner of Walko this morning and we both agree that you might not be better off with this group buying idea.  Shipping a pallet from the Netherlands to the USA won't be cheap and then you will have onward shipping fees within the US on top of that.  Plus one person has to coordinate everything and to bring in such a large shipment you may have to issues with customs, etc

I shipped a Walko 4 to the US last week and the shipping cost was $150 and it took 4 days.

We are also thinking of other ways to further reduce that shipping cost.

I'm just floating this out there as an idea.  Obviously I am a dealer, but I do want to help if I can.

We in New Jersey have the major Port of Elizabeth for importing goods which may work out to RMW's benefit.  We could also have a big FOGFEST here or truck it to Virginia and then everyone would be able to pick up their Walko bench without having to worry about reshipping.

I'd like to see Paul-Marcel do a video review.  How about this weekend, PM?  Unsure

Exactly. My "day job" involves industrial real estate and I deal with ports, shippers, freight forwarders, etc. I would hope to make a large enough purchase to qualify for volume pricing and then use my connections to manage the shipping and import.

Tom, if you would not mind sharing the owners contact information I would appreciate it. They did not return my second email, possibly due to your conversation, but I would like to explore this further.

Thanks,

RMW

No problem, you have to weigh up the options.

After our conversation he was going to come back to you, perhaps he is still considering it.  We spoke on the telephone.  The only email address I have is the standard info@walko.nl
