Won a Festool Sander at the Roadshow
« on: July 10, 2018, 07:19 AM »
Hi,

I was the winner of a ReQ125 sander at one of the Roadshows.

I am patiently waiting for it.  Has anyone won one ?  If so, how long did it take to receive it and how was it delivered ?

Thanks.

I attended a roadshow recently and didn't see any place to enter a drawing for a prize.

Put my name in on the computer when I first arrived and they handed out the new
catalog and 2018 Roadshow hot/cold mug, is that what you are referring to? There
was nothing I saw about a drawing. Did you need to be present to win? Who has
time to stick around all day or even until Noon if you get there at 9am when it starts.

The draw was a random selection of those who registered by entering their email address.

I think at every location a winner was selected.

I assume that you won an ETS 125 REQ? If that is correct and based on the list of Festool’s that you own as noted in your posts, I think that this will fit into your stable beautifully. With all of those great tools I am amazed that this will be your first non Rotex rotary Festool, enjoy!

Yes, I won the ETS 125 REQ.

I really want the ETS EC 125 3.  In Canadian dollars it is a $300 price increase.

Not really sure it is worth it.

Maybe I will keep the ETS 125 REQ as my between coats finish sander.

Patiently waiting for it to be shipped.

All the best.

Ooh, the “is it worth the additional money” question is so tough. All I know is that once you have it you will like it. I always ponder that question before I buy one but remarkably, never after. I have an ETS EC 125 and I love it😊.

What's the roadshow? And where does it go? (tongue firmly in cheek)

Been signed up for Festool newsletters and announcements for several years, and get no notifications of from them.

If it wasn't for ME visiting this forum I wouldn't have a clue......

Festool owns a very large truck that is half 18 wheeler and half fancy expandable RV with push out sides. They go around the country every year introducing the faithful to their products. The vehicle is fully outfitted with most any cool festool thing that you can imagine. Once they arrive at their destination they expand the center of the trailer which creates a large open display area where a number of Festool folks perform demonstrations with their tools. Sanders, routers, saws, edge banders,  dominos, you name it, they are demonstrating it up close and personal. In my experience they usually team up with the local Festool dealer and camp out in their parking lot for the day before moving quickly onto the next stop.

Glad to see that you were a winner at Festool’s Roadshow.
But... Alanbach: You’re INCORRECT when you say: “They go around the country...”
As is Leo Zirkler, vice president of marketing for Festool, when he says: “The Festool Roadshow was a huge success... So we’re going out again, throughout the U.S. and Canada”...

I hear ya, SouthRider/Covington, LA: “What's the roadshow?”
In the U.S. - Festool’s Roadshows are in the NORTHEAST ONLY. Check their 2018 Roadshow map. Some are within “spittin’ distance” of each other.
https://www.festoolusa.com/company/roadshow
But... Absolutely NONE are scheduled west of Omaha, NE.
It’s simply hard to believe that not a SINGLE FESTOOL DEALER - Anywhere in the western U.S. - Doesn’t want to have the Roadshow - Only those in the Midwest and Northeast.

Apparently... We who live in the west don’t matter. [sad]
Pssst. Festool. We buy a lot of your products. And gas ain’t THAT expensive.
If you can get that truck to Menomonee Falls, WI (Really?) - I bet you could get to DENVER - Or VEGAS - Or L.A. - Or...

I live in Riverview, FL and went to the Clearwater Florida Road show when it was in town a year or so ago, so atleast once they came south, but once you've been to one, there isn't much more to see until they come out with more new tools.

It does rely on dealer participation, Festool does not just roll into town and set up the truck! If you want a stop in your area, pester your local dealer and get them on it, telling Festool directly may not be the best idea....

If you think that they will visit every area then you are sadly mistaken.  This program has been going on for a few years and yes they have made it past the Mississippi.  They have been to California, Arizona, and I think Colorado.  Also up the west coast to Washington.  Where they visit is also dependent on having willing dealers.  I could very possibly be wrong, but dealers have to 1.  be interested, and 2.  meet certain criteria.  (Actually I know I am not wrong.  But what I know was told confidentially.)

The logistics of the tour which I believe was originally slated to be 5 years is extremely complex.  I heard what the cost was to cross over the border into Canada and my jaw dropped.

If you want the tour to visit somewhere near to you then where you start is with a local dealer.  If they aren't willing then your odds get worse.

I’ll speak to both next time I’m there.

Over the years with all the Festool dealers in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area, think Woodcraft, Acme, Rockler, Betterly, the old infamous 7 Corners Hardware and finally Trade Tools, this is the FIRST time the Festool circus will hit our area.  [thumbs up]  It’ll be at Betterly’s on July 31st for only 4 hours and then the circus will quietly leave town.

I have heard many positive comments about that Woodcraft store that your neighbors once operated.  I haven't been to that part of the state in 18 years even though it is less than 2 hours away.

I am sorry if I came across harsh - it really is in the dealers hands and then integrating those requests into a realistic route.

A little know fact, one of the Festool employees who has done the show since the beginning - camps out thru the trip.

I won't supply names or any more details but it is true.

Wow guys! I didn’t know that I had to watch my wording (“they go around the country”) that carefully! I am in Houston which is somewhat west and quite south but whatever😊. Here let’s try this again ... they make a number of stops around the country while skipping many more cities and offending many as they pass. Is that better? 😊😊😊 Please don’t take me too seriously. I was just trying to answer the mans question. When they were here in the Houston area they were here two or three days in a row at different dealer’s locations so I definitely think that the comments regarding how much the dealers influence this are very true!

Congrats on your win, @Brian Livingstone! It’s usually a few weeks for the sanders to arrive. Send us a private message if you don’t get it soon.

For everyone else, the ETS 125 REQ giveaway is something that we started in June. Each of our stops going forward will have one (except in locations where it’s prohibited).

We try to bring the Roadshow to as many places as we can, but we’ll never hit everywhere. @Joe Felchin - The dates on the website only reflect the first half of 2018. Over the past two years, we’ve hit as many other parts of the US and CA as possible. As @copcarcollector pointed out, it involves dealer participatio, which adds an extra layer of complexity.

New dates for August and September will be added to festoolroadshow.com later this week.

My point was that Festool hasn't done much to publicize the roadshow lately.

Thanks for the congratulations about winning the sander.  Just to add a few comments about the roadshow.  I actually attended two.  One at Lee Valley Halifax, and the other Rideout Tools in Dartmouth.

Talking to the tool experts was invaluable.  I hadn't seen the Kapex extensions before.  They are on my want list.  I never did use the parallel guide extensions.  I got a quick lesson on calibration.  I had just recently purchased my 2200 router.  I got some good insight into how to use it.

I wish the end user classes were closer to Nova Scotia and I didn't have to cross the border to attend.

All the best.

I'd bet Austin Hardwoods in Denver had one in recent memory as well.

It is a very hot day here in Nova Scotia.  I am in my living room having a little rest with my front door wide open.

I hear a truck in my cul de sac, don’t think anything about it.

In time I get up and lo and behold this beauty is sitting on my front step !

Thank you Festool.
