These two sanders appear (in specs and parts diagram) to be *so* similar. Why can't we
change pads so that we only need one of them, not both?

Yes. You can buy the additional pad an exchange them. I did that, but still use the rectangular base much more than the delta base...

Hmm...


 Though it has been done, Festool recommends against it. It is not simply a pad change, but another piece needs to disassembled and reassembled, probabaly easy enough to do, but may affect the counterbalance of the unit.

Well then I'm glad I started the thread here.

Dear Festool: Please forgo the (small) additional sales of the two units and implement the 
engineering necessary to combine them into one. Fine, upcharge 50%. If you can do the Rotex
you can do this in your sleep.
