Fill in the blank: I wish Festool made a ______!
« on: August 18, 2010, 07:46 PM »
I posted this on our Facebook fan page recently and there were a lot of responses.

Obviously, we've had many threads here with various "wishes" but in a word or two, let's hear what you wish Festool would offer that it currently doesn't.

Mine's more of a accessory:

You know the small open squares on the bottom of the systainer's?  It would be cool to have a small insert to provide a rubber, fiber, or other no-mar foot for the toolbox.  I work in finished homes on new floors, c-tops, etc.  I've made my own, but would I rather have a systainer-centric version.

cordless impact driver, with the same technology as their cordless drills (brushless motors, etc.)

I smile as I write this because Shane's subject header reminded me of the "Mad Libs" books I had as a kid.

Protool's line includes impact drivers, correct?

Not to take this off topic, but wouldn't a Festool woman or Festool other cost you a lot up front and then again?

I wish Festool made a better effort to get some of those European tools over here.

And some sort of saw helper type supports for the kapex.

As with any festool, it's not so much the initial cost but the accessories. Also, I wonder if a festool woman would be compatible with the clamping elements and whether the 30 day return policy would still apply.

Seriously, I would like to see Festool come up with a benchtop drill press.

Ok, so maybe I wasn't clear about this... First, there's one person that wants all of the stuff from Europe over here more than any of you... ME!

Think of things that Festool doesn't already make.  How about putting it like this...  If Festool made a _____, I would buy one and throw away the one I use now.

A hinge that fits a mortise that can be bored by the Domino, like the Lamello hinges that fit in the mortises cut by their biscuit joiner.  Thank you.

A Shane Holland action figure?  [big grin]

The one thing I can think of that I'd love to trade in for a Festool model would be an air compressor. Make something that's really quiet, reasonably light/portable and I'd line up a year ahead of time to grab it.

I can't really think of anything, there is a good selection of things made that is only for sale in europe.

I do like the portable planer but, I don't see you making it so much better then they are.

A syspressor would be sweet.

Oh Boy!

1.  An accessory arm that attaches under the systainer cart that allows you to roll your stack, but when you get to a curb lean back like a hand truck.  Looking for just the handle not the Tanos hand truck thing - sorry Franck.

2.  A sysport like item that will handle the mini systainers in a stack of 5.

3.  A rotating platform with wheels that will hold 3 or 4 of item #2.  A carousel effect.

4.  I would hope that one day RFID can be integrated into the tools in case of theft or my stupidity.

5.  A small cms type router table- router only - not interchangeable - accessory that mounts on the MFT - maybe 18 x 18 with diagonal legs back to the mft legs or a telescopic leg down.  Router only - not interchangeable.

6.  A much longer fence for the MFT/3.  Allowing for 9' of flag to cut length on the mft 3

7.  A magnetic plate insert that fits in the systainer lid  inside that when used with the attic systainers would keep things from splattering on the floor if you forget to lock the attic and then open the lid.

Well, if Festool made an oscillating spindle sander, I would buy one and off my PC 121. [scared]  This type sander would fit well within the Festool lineup, as the PC 121 can be used handheld and taken to the work AND be placed into a router plate made for this sander and used as a benchtop machine.  So, if built by Festool, such a sander could also be used handheld of mounted into a CMS module.   [smile]

I also wish Festool would make a cart for the MFTs.  If they did, I would be compelled to buy some along with some new MFT/3s and then sell my older MFT 1080s and my MFT 800.  We've seen some that may or may not have been available for purchase before, but one made for the MFT/3 would cause me to fork over the bucks to upgrade my tables.   [blink]

And lastly, I wish Festool would offer those denim shirts with Festool embroidered on them.  These may be an employee only (unless you sneak into the the warehouse when nowone's looking, like someone we know...) now, but how about us customers?   [tongue]

Bolt the vac handle on the roll board, or cut apart a cheap 2 wheeled cart for the handle, or have a welding shop bend you one out of aluminum.

Yeah, golf season is nearing its last hu-rah and I could still use a nice festool polo, size medium. [big grin]

I have several different wheels and casters laying around that I got to turn my mft/3 and kapex mft into some sort of cart.
I know they are in the garage somewhere but, I don't have time to mess with them.

A flashlight, that would use the Festool cordless drill batteries, so I can get back the space that the Dewalt batteries & charger are taking up in my work truck.
A radio would be nice also.

No one yet mentioned a reciprocating saw (Sawzall, not a jigsaw), with ample and integrated dust collection.

An impact driver would be huge.  I could retire my Ryobi (I do love it though).  I saw in his recent pictorial that Frank Pellow uses these also.   [smile]

Darcy,

I fail to understand what you are wishing for here.  If you had intended to respond to my prior post, you completely failed to understand the type of cart that I was talking about.  I wasn't looking for some make-shift suggestions, but was looking to get the cart that Festool had made to mount the MFT onto.  I tried to find the old photos of that cart, but cannot seem to find them.  But, I would like to see Festool offer a new version of that cart.

Was there something you wish Festool would make?

Sorry, the first part was for Peter, the shirt was for me, and the last part was me wanting to make my tables easier to move around but, I am too lazy to put it together.

I'd like to see a small jointer / planer. A benchtop portable model which could be carried to a jobsite.

Something about 8" wide

Of course, it would have to work well with the Festool dust extractors

1.  A manifold of at least 3 power-sensing, automatic blast gates for the CTs.  When I set up my Festools, I position them in a U-shaped configuration.  The Kapex is on the left leg of the U, 2 MFTs at the bottom of the U for sanding, routing, dominoing, etc, and a 4x8 table with TS-55 on the right side of the U for breaking down sheets.  The CT is stationed in the middle of the U to serve all three positions.  The manifold could mount to the CT handle or boom arm and would connect through the 50mm hose to the CT.  3 (or more) 36mm hoses would connect from the manifold to each tool station.  Each gate would be opened by activating the tool at each position.  When the tool powers down, the CT would run for a few seconds to clear the hose, then the gate would close.  No more changing hoses or cords for users.  More hose sales for Festool.  Win-Win.

2.  +1 for a DW735-type portable planer with helical head

3.  +1 for a Systainer-based continuous-duty, quiet air compressor (like the Thomas T-635HD)
http://www.finehomebuilding.com/toolguide/product-finder/thomas-hd-air-compressor.aspx

4.  Storage cart for multiple MFTs that would also serve as MFT

5.  Modification to exisiting SYSPORT for better drawer latching and elimination of goofy green button.  PLEASE!!!

6.  A mechanism to perfectly align the holes in two MFTs for cutting long and/or short panel with 2 guide rails, one per MFT.

7.  An improved mechanism for more precise squaring of the guide rails on MFT.

8.  Improved Kapex rail extensions with deeper, adjustable aluminum rails that remain parallel to the Kapex fence.

9.  Replaceable zero-clearance throat plates for Kapex.

10.  Locking casters/wheels/base for MFT3/Kapex

1. Portable planner with carbide head and hss (with excellent dust collection of course)
2. Scroll saw with LED light, dust collection, ideally with a moving belt system so the blade only goes up/down, no back and forth play.
3. Drill with built in LED light, not an add on
4. Small CNC wood mill (similar to CarveWright) with standard g-code (or other open) formats
