What's the good, the bad, and the ugly of this stuff ? I've only heard good things about it , but there must be some trade off. I just want to use it in exterior oil-based primers to help it flow better.

It will definitely make it flow better. I had to finish a shelving unit a week before a Super Bowl game and it was cold so I asked my local Sherwin Williams rep. There was a painter there at the time and he said get Penetrol and it worked just fine. Follow the directions fairly closely though as I have heard too much causes some problems but I do not remember what.

Thanks John -- I have heard that it can cause a decrease in gloss -- but this isn't an issue for me. The low VOC primers they are using these days just don't seem to flow very well , even the high grade stuff --- .
Justin
P.S. John, did they sell it at the Sherwin Williams store ? I have an account with those guys.
Change of topic: I spent a little time on the Guadalupe in Kerrville a couple of summers ago --- beautiful place -- you are a lucky man.

I use penetrol with ALL interior oil based paints. I usually prefer Benjamin Moores Impervo satin interior oil trim paint. I know if you put too much Penetrol in a lighter color it can very slightly darken it, very very slightly.
