Adding Videos to Your Posts

Everyone,
I've been receiving several requests from members to include videos in the forum posts.  I am all for videos in posts, but unfortunately the sizes of most videos make them prohibitive for adding as attachments.

At the moment, the best option for including videos in your posts is to use the Youtube button, which is located with all the other posting buttons.  This allows you to insert the video even easier than an attachment (it's inserted just like a hyperlink).  It's fast, and the video plays live right in your post.  Of course, you have to have the video on Youtube for this to work!

To make it easier for members to post videos that can be linked to the forum, I just created a public YouTube account for the forum.  This will allow all our videos to be kept in one place, until the day comes when we can attach videos directly to posts here in the forum.

To sign into our public account, use this information (case sensitive):

Great, we have a place to post videos.  But how to make them?

Don't have the money for a camcorder after you buy your Festools?  Hate the quality of cell phone videos?

The Flip camcorder sells for 112 USD on Amazon.  Products based on the same technology from other manufacturers go as low as 90 USD.

I just read a review by David Pogue (nytimes.com, registration required) of this device.  It's taken the US market by storm, accounting for 13% of sales of camcorders.

It is extremely limited, very minimalist.  But images are much better than your cell phone, and it's very inexpensive.

Despite my enthusiastic copywriting at the beginning of the post, I know nothing other than what I read in the review.  (Enthusiastic copywriting is easier when you don't know anything, I've found.     )

Worth a look.

Yes, I read the article this week about the Flip camera.  Sounds like it would be an easy and relatively inexpensive way to shoot some videos of tools.  For those of you who are interested in seeing Pogue's article, click here..
