The text of the messages has stopped displaying. I can only see the the message text by clicking the Quote button. (Names and signature do display) Is there some setting I could have accidentaly clicked to make the text invisible?

Well, I see the same problem on this (my other computer) on which I haven't clicked a thing. I suppose that since this is a web based forum something I did on the other computer would affect what I see here as well. Any Ideas how to restore the message text? Assuming anyone can read this.

I'm also not seeing the text of any messages unless I hit "Quote."

It sure doesn't look like it's any individual user. Maybe the board needs a reboot.

Everyone,
The problems we experienced today had to do with my attempt to install a modification to SMF.  One of the modification I installed alters the way text is displayed.  I then uninstalled the modification, and had to go into some lines of code.  When I did that, the modification was gone, but it took text from the message bodies along with it!!

I worked on this with my Web host and we fixed the problem.  I was going nuts for a few hours there!

Lesson learned: if you're not a programmer, don't mess around with code!!

Thanks everyone,

Matthew,

Thanks for the hard work.   OK, back to the important stuff - arguing about the Domino!   Grin

Even though this was a hair-raising experience, it did give me an opportunity to learn about the innards of a database!  Now I understand what all those previously mysterious files are for.

Just so everyone knows, the entire forum -- all the messages, photos, avatars, settings, member information -- is backed up every night on a remote computer.  If anything were to ever go wrong, it could all be back up pretty quickly.

That's another thing I learned from all this.

Well, now that I know this, I would rather not have to use that knowledge!
