Admins: Can I change my username?
« on: November 21, 2009, 01:44 PM »
Admins,

When I first signed up, I didn't realize people use their real first names.  Can I change my username from "vesbon" to "Greg Vesbon"?

Thanks,
Greg

What you can do is to keep your username, but change your "display name" - and you can do it yourself!

  • In the menu at the top of the page, click on Profile
  • In the menu at the left, click on Account Related Settings
  • You will now see your username, and below that a box containing your "name".  This is the displayed name that people will see.
  • Change the contents of that box to whatever you want displayed beside each of your posts.
  • At the bottom of that page, enter your password and click on Change Profile
  • If you now return to the main forum, you'll see that your existing posts have been changed to your new name!

Note that your username (ie the name you use to log in) remains unchanged

To add to what Forrest posted:

Some members post under their real names.  Some don't.  This forum and others are visited by search engines, so if you don't want your name out there don't use your real name.  Perhaps that is why some people sign their posts with a first name versus posting under their full name.  Some don't sign their posts at all.

It is not a requirement.  Do what you're comfortable with doing.

Vesbon,

I had sent your request to the administrators, so if you change your mind, let us know or send Shane a PM directly.
