I received the SysNotes this morning. It seems the surprise relates to the CXS. You can enter to win one if you submit a Festimonial and it will be available mid-2011.

I'm not seeing what is so great that one would want to sign up for the newsletter, this newsletter in particular.

Sign up for a slim to none chance to get a cordless drill!?

I have been signed up for ages. Forget the prize then, it still keeps us updated on new projects, tools and sales, etc.

A lot of guys here have a passion for the Festools, it's their hobby so for some the contest may be a nice thing.

This forum and Shane's job in running this web site is to stir up excitement about Festool. By promoting the newsletter he is doing just that, his job. Not to mention a lot of people want to hear about Festool contests and programs, that is one reason they are on the forum in the first place.  :)

The one who says it can't be done should avoid interrupting the person doing it.

You'll have to do more than just sign up for the newsletter, you'll have to actually enter the contest.  While one lucky contestant will win the new CXS, there will also be three winners that will each win a Rack Systainer.

I don't see the problem with signing up for the newsletter.  If you're a Festool user -- and why else would you be here -- wouldn't you want to get the newsletter?  It really is very little effort on your part to sign up.  If you're not interested in the contest, then just don't enter.  I just cannot understand the attitude behind the negative response to these kind of contests.  What's the problem?
Looks like your rabbit joint is a hare off! ;)

I get the newsletter.  And long before this.

I like my Festools.

I'd appreciate a more modest or sophisticated marketing approach.  I expect car sales pitches when I'm at the car dealer.

I think the amount of marketing varies between Sysnotes.  If you look at the August version, it is full of product information and links/pointers to various sources of tips.
I think September is just a bit heavy on the overt marketing because there is a specific promotion starting October 1st.  Coupled with the also-upcoming CTs and the CXS overview, the September Sysnotes seems like a big sales brochure.  But, again, I think it is mainly a matter of the timing of this issue.

Here are all the Sysnotes in 2010, for further comparison and for any who missed them.

An interesting tidbit... Feb2010 Sysnotes may have been a foreshadowing of the current fall promotion?

Have you submitted your Festimonial yet for a chance to win the CXS? If not, head over to our website for your chance to win.

Now that I've had the chance to give a CXS a try, I have to say it's going to be a great addition to our cordless drill family. The interchangable chuck system, very light weight, D-handle design offers great ergonomics, and more. One lucky winner is really going to enjoy it, I'm sure.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to submit your Festool testimonial for a chance to win an exclusive CXS compact cordless drill set before October 31st, 2010.

Sorry, I forgot to post an update here on the forum but the winner was announced on our blog and on Facebook.

Quote
Congratulations to David Dimston of Austin, TX who was randomly selected as the winner of the CXS Cordless Drill Set in our 2010 Festimonial Giveaway! A special thanks to everyone who participated. It's obvious that we have a lot of customers who are very passionate about their tools. Thank you for choosing Festool.

David is not a member of the forum to my knowledge but I did speak with him at length. He offered to share his impressions of the CXS and T-Loc so hopefully I will get that from him in the coming weeks. If so, I'd be happy to post it here for all to read.
