There are sellers that setup fake listings on eBay coupon days. If it's too good to be true. . .

I snagged a Norseman 115 pc Bright M7 Drill Bit Set Number Letter 1/16" to 1/2" USA J-115 for $167.44.  Listed for $196.00.  Good timing as I was following the thread on drill sets.  I have various sets of good bits but the 115 piece set I have is a Grizzly...not the best.

Nice!  I have their PL-13 Jobber Length set.  Thus far I'm really happy with it.

I think you’re right.  Listing has been taken down.

Bought the FSK rails from Hartville and got the 15% discount from eBay.
Will buy the HKC from Bob Marino and apply for the “trade up” rebate/debit card.

Being in NYC if I need something right away (like I forgot the power cord) I can usually get it same day.

When I need something in a day or two Amazon is good but I have still have to pay sales tax.

Hartville is next best (for me in my location) since shipping from Ohio only takes 2 or 3 days, there is no sales tax, and the transaction is a breeze via eBay/PayPal. Their tool listings on eBay are actually better than their own website.

If I have more time I buy from Bob Marino since I’ve been buying Festools from him since 2002? Bob’s fulfillment as shifted from his garage in NJ to a storefront in NJ to a professional fulfillment center in Ohio and from there to another place (better for him and some customers) in Tennessee. But for me it takes a little more time to receive something than from Ohio.

I've come to the realization that I should use the 15% eBay coupons to buy Festool items that will not show up on the recon site.  Things like the Domino Assortment, Domino Connector, Bluetooth Module, Quick Clamps, etc.

I am kinda wondering if maybe I should have bought the OF1010 to take advantage of the Trade Up Promotion and the eBay coupon.  I already have an OF1400 that I have yet to use so I thought getting an OF1010 would be overkill.

Use the eBay promotion to buy things that are not part of the “trade up” program.

FWIW, Ebay seems to offer these coupons every single month - the day varies and the amount varies - sometimes it is 15%, other times it is 20%. Usually capped at $100 maximum discount and you usually have to spend $25 minimum. It is not a scam as Ebay sends them out.

I wish I would have known about this before. This is a great way to buy filter bags and extra Systainers and hoses etc. (As was said above, all the things that never show up on the recon site,)
I did manage to catch it today thanks to this thread and was able to get a few things and saved ~$90.

It’s been coinciding with the end of their fiscal quarters.  So far, March, June and now September.  Usually the $100 max is only offered once each quarter, but I think they followed up once or twice with a $50 max coupon.  But for the purpose that anyone cares about...look for a November flurry starting a few weeks before Thanksgiving and culminating with BF and cyber Monday.  That will probably be their Q4 push.  Their stated goal has been to boost their sales on new products to compete with the sales growth seen in other ecommerce platforms.

I think Festool vendors who do not sell on eBay may have a reason for a complaint here as it upsets the level playing field of fixed pricing. If a buyer can get up to $100 dollars off from a particular vendor, then that vendor has an advantage. Will Festool say that all vendors should sell on eBay to eliminate that advantage or will Festool ban eBay selling? Is the latter even legal?

Or option 3 they stop price fixing. A dealer should be allowed to sell on any market they choose, be it eBay or Amazon or their own website. I have different incentives to spend on different sites. Sometimes I have use or lose eBay bucks that I want to use on eBay. It's not the dealers fault eBay is running promotions. They still charge MSRP and receive MSRP for the items they sell. eBay as an intermediary kicks in the discount to the buyer. No one is stopping the other dealers from opening stores on Amazon/eBay.

I get 5% cash back on Amazon.com purchases. So if an item (Festool) is fixed in price regardless of where I buy from, and I can take advantage of this benefit with my credit card, guess where I'm buying from?

IMHO, it's not worth pondering for us, Festool or a Festool dealer because this is short term and getting into the nuances of how dealers conduct their business is messy.  Eventually ebay will curtail the promotions and instead of saving $100 per transaction, you'll be saving $10-15 I'm guessing.  I would be surprised if the current rate of promotions extends beyond next March of next year.  Once the execs prove they can get their revenue numbers up the next question is how much do they need to spend on these promotions to remain competitive.  And instead of throwing money at buyers, what else can they do to drive traffic.

Also if we're going to play the 'not fair' game. .what about buying from out of state dealers vs supporting local to avoid sales tax? Not much different and has been going on for years. Some dealers even advertise it as a perk of buying from them.

Back in the day some brick and mortar dealers said “no fair shopping from mail-order catalogs”.
Then, “no fair ordering stuff via toll-free phone numbers”.
Etc., etc.

I love going down to Highland Woodworking, but instead of the 7% I thought I was paying in tax it is actually 8.9%. I simply can't justify going there for higher dollar purchases anymore. I don't mind paying local sales tax, but City of Atlanta isn't where I live or work, and would much rather pay 3% less where I do.

Discovered this a bit more when looking to buy a new phone. All the Apple stores are in higher tax districts vs having it shipped to me.

I wish I had a shop of that caliber up here.  We do have tools for working wood which is good, but far smaller.  But going over 2 NYC bridges with extortion tolls and traffic in 2 NYC boroughs means I've only visited once in the 3-4 years I've known about them.   [sad]

Darn, didn't check this group until after the deal had closed.
How do you find about these offers?  I looked at eBay and couldn't find a way to get notified.
Also, just curious: who eats the 15% difference? EBay?  The vendor?

I just saw the statement below in a thread at Digital Photography Review. A person in Colorado reported that a New York camera store had reported his mail order purchase to the Colorado tax authority and now Colorado wants a use tax

"Now there is a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that lets States force out-of-state businesses to be their tax collection agents."

This could be the beginning of the end of tax free internet sales if you live in a state that has a sales tax.
