The 100+ air temps last week finally got the water temperature up in our pool to over 90F.   I wents out to swim one night at about 11PM, and when I got out I felt a bit "chilled" because the air temp was down to the low 90's!

I'm ready for Fall!

Maybe next year, Fidel. This year we're getting two summers so maybe next year none?

It's still too hot for my tastes!  Working in my west facing shop/garage yesterday in the early evening I finally beat a hasty retreat to the AC in the house at 95 degrees (in the shade).  When I remodeled the garage I insulated the place, including the door.  Of course insulation works both ways, and on opening the garage at 7:00 am today the temperature inside was over 80 degrees, in contrast to outside in the mid sixties.  I know, we all complain about the weather but don't do nothing about it.

For me the challenge is to find the right time to work inthe shop, usually it's too cold in he winter (I have infarred heaters and long underwear) or too hot in the summer (a ceiling mounted fan and shorts).  Still, it's the only place to play/work with my Festools.  Big Grin

Let's see.  105 today and tomorrow and the day after and the day after and the day after.... you get my point.  We will probably break the record for 100 degrees days which currently stands at 69 days.  I haven't even thought about doing any woodworking all summer, it's over 100 at ten in the evening and the low's at night are in the mid 80's.   This is the worst summer in 30 years.  my wife thinks I'm crazy for playing golf on he weekends but I usually go out at 7:30 and I'm done by noon.  Not too bad.  It's usually around 98 or so by then.  It will probably be the end of September before it gets below 95 during the day so I'll have to wait until then to start any projects.  I did get a nice PC 18 gauge 2" pin nailer but it's been too hot to even play with it.  Just miserable.  Texas just sucks in the summer.  650 miles in any direction to get away from it.

Unusually cold here on the central coast of California. We should be seeing temps approaching 110, instead we've been in the 80s all summer. Except for one week in July when we hit 106 (early)

Maybe this help our housing slump?

I'd be covered in saw dust year around if I could figure out how to afford to live the SF Bay Area.  We have some friends who live in Burlingame, about 10 miles south of SF, and their nice 2700 sq ft 1960's rancher is still worth $1.6 million.   Scared Scared Scared Scared  Not moving out there anytime soon, I'm afraid.

Howard,

My wife and I spent time in San Fran during our honeymoon in '94.  We said "Wow, it's really nice here...maybe we should move out here?"

Then, we stopped in some fairly nondescript neighborhood on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge and pulled some real estate listings....and noted that the smallish houses there were something like 3X  Eek! the price of our modest townhouse in very expensive Northern Virginia.

looks like I jinxed it... we'll hit 104 today

(actually, the local wisdom is that on the first day of school it will either get hot, or rain. School starts today).

Today we broke the number of triple-digit days in one year. The old record was 69 days and was a dust bowl record. We've also only had about 3-4 inches of rain all year. Our normal annual rainfall is over 30 inches...

Tom,
I heard Lake Travis is 40-45 feet down again and they are finding old cars, boats, whatever that was normally out of view with normal lake levels.  We are on stage 2 water rationing in Plano which means no more than twice a week watering.  Bad time for landscapes.

Howard:

I spent July 4th, (Give Away a Colony Day for our UK brethren), at a friend's house on Lake Travis. It's sort of a tradition among my friends. A few years ago, the owner and I went scuba diving for stuff that fell off his floating dock after the party was over. People had lost glasses and keys. When we got to the ultra-murky bottom, it was 50 feet deep. This year, that same spot was dry.

He sucks their domestic water from a pump on his dock. That dock is normally connected to the shore by a double-pivoting gangplank. On the 4th, it was floated out and disconnected. He's had to disconnect it a few times in the 20+ years they've lived there but I think this is the worst.
