I also like Nightwish.

One of my favorite- My Immortal by Evanescence. There is not a bad song on their debut album Fallen.

My music taste runs the gamut, tell me a great story.

For the story it tells, this song will aways be number one on my list.

Let's change it up a bit... Eliza Doolittle This is a great unplugged version that show cases her voice. the version released on the album is, IMO, overproduced.

I enjoy all types of music, as long as it's done well.

I know Jazz isn't for everyone but sometimes it is done really well.

I keep searching for some of the tunes I heard on a local NPR Blues Program where Johnny Winter and B B King played together.  I can't find the tunes I want yet but these two Texas guys represent very good American Blues music.

I don't think there's an "age" when it comes to music ... you're either open or closed to what's new (in much wider terms than music).

I LOVE old Bowie ..

.. but I'm really enjoying the quality of some of the current crop of alternative music. Alt-J are a real standout:

I grew up listening to Rock & Roll as well as Country, playing Classical music in the youth symphony, and trying to convince my high school music director he needed a cello in the Jazz band.  Needless to say, my musical tastes run the gamut.

One of my favorite singers is Raul Malo of the Mavericks.

Here's a solo rendition of Dream River from their Trampoline album.  Great song.  Incredible voice.

I've been switching back and forth between reggae (dirty heads, young marleys, rebelution, iration, matisyahu) and more alternative stuff like rise against, flobots (listen to "defend Atlantis" and tell me you don't get it), avenged sevenfold. That's just the flavor of the hour but I'll listen to anything that moves me.

For me the most credible example of a 60s rock and roll guy to crossing over to country (Gene Clark of the Byrds).  It has none of the sappiness and hokey-ness you often find when the hippies started doing roots music, and manages to achieve a genuinely new approach to country.

The Rail Band -- Kaira:

Ali Farka Toure (the Jimi Hendrix of Malian music) -- Allah:

Super Djata de Bamako - Maliden

Tata Bembo Kouyaté - Armée

Right now I'm listening to Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring (BWV 147 / 10). Great for celebrating a new morning.

I only just came across this thread.  I got rained out so had a chance to investigate The FOG.  When I got down to @joraft comment about Fast Boogie, I was transported back to a time long before i was even 38.  My brother and i had been dropped of at my uncle's farm for a couple of weeks while my own folks sorted out a few of their own problems. The aunt and uncle were the types who could never say "NO" to anybody who needed to drop of any kid, or two, or three, or....... no matter how long or brief the stay might be.  My brother and I were a part of the family for 5-1/2 years.  During our stay, there were many others who became "a part of the family" as well.  One very lttle boy whose mom and dad were students at Juliard stayed for a couple of years.  My aunt and uncle both played piano.  The aunt also played the violin.  Others in the famiy were all very musicaly inclined and it was a common occurrance for the entire family to gather around the piano for a good old fashioned sing along.  My uncle was a big and very powerful man with huge hands.  He played at several local clubs during summer turist season. At the end of the season, the owners had to put new ivories on the keyboard.  His hands were so big and powerful, he often sent ivories flying as he banged away.  But even tho he never learned to read music, his music was very entertaining.

The Juliard dad was studying very classical and opera type music.  His play was perfection and he could play by reading the music or just pick up by ear.  He was a tiny man, barley over five feet tall. He was very near sighted and wore very thick glasses. Any time we got together around the piano, the two men would end a session with a duet of Bumble Boogie.  My uncle would play the base and rhythm part.  He would sit staight up, almost leaning backwards.  He could be a real banger type of player.  The student would play the high notes and the melody.  He was, as mentioned, a tiny man.  He would play his part to perfection scrunched over with his nose almost touching the keyboard he was so close.  The music was out of this world, but it was almost as entertaining to watch the two men with their differing styles.  Even tho they were of totally different disciplines in their music, those two could really meld in together.

Even tho I don't have much to add to all of the great music mentioned here thru out this thread, that duet of Bumble Boogie has to be my all time favorite.

Wife and I recently heard All the Light We Cannot See on Audible. Clair de Lune had a role in the story. Just as hearing the tune in your head made the book richer, now the music evokes the book.

Our son singing from Pippen

This is my favorite. Our son is a senior in high school and he really loves musical theater.  He's going to major in college in performance music and business.  He may have a chance.  Wait until the end.  He can get up there...

 Ah, let's have some fun....

Dollie Deluxe   -  Carmen/Gimme Some Lovin'.   Ladies in period outfits, man in 80's outfit and haircut - way  dated.

The Shadows  -  Apache.    Clothes and haircuts - still timeless after 56 years.

Below are 2 hauntingly beautiful pieces of music that have to move you.

Trevor Jones  - Theme from Last of the Mohicans.

Zimmer and Gerrard  -  Theme from Gladiator.

Can't believe I have missed this thread for so long. I could sit here all day with favorite sounds etc...But since a lot of you are from across the pond from the US, this Elton John song I remember from growing up and I stumbled upon this version awhile back. This girl is absolutely amazing, no lyrics required to make the songs come to life. Perhaps some of you over there have seen or heard of her?

And I can't help but add thee greatest rock band of all time with one of their greatest songs

From his final Oxygene album. I haven't liked anything he's made after the brilliant Oxygene 7-13 but with this album he's returned to his old form.
