We are a couple hundred feet off the bay and the females apparently come inland to lay their eggs. In the fall I have seen them in the street, stopped to assist and had to chase her down the street. These turtles are faster than hares!  Jaw Dropping

Anyway, this little guy got locked up until sundown (after seagull feeding time)&  then escorted to an area of the bay without bulkhead and pointed toward Europe. Cute little guy.

So - what is the coolest thing that has wandered into your work area?

Very cool!  Do you happen to know how large they get & how long they live?

Ron,

I think this is a Terrapin, not sure about how long they live but the females I have seen laying eggs are under a foot long. The northern 1/2 of the island is a wildlife refuge, we get a lot of migratory seabirds and also have a large population of fox that live in the dunes and marshes.

It's a zoo around here...  Eek!

Snapping Turtles lay their eggs in front of my shop every spring.  Amazing to watch.
