Ten years on the FOG
« on: June 13, 2017, 02:41 AM »
On this day ten years ago I joined this forum. It was also around that time I bought my first Festool, a TS55. Since then I've gone on to buy a few more Festools.

This forum has had its ups and downs but has always been a great place to get info and to share info on not only Festool but lots of other stuff.

A big thanks to all the mods for looking after this place and here's to the next 10 years, cheers.

Chris

Thanks guys nice to know things get noticed  [big grin]. I enjoy trying to help others almost as much as being helped and learning new stuff myself. Must admit I'm not here quite as often as I used to be, what with work, twitter, facebook, instagram etc lol.

I'm still using that Gorilla gripper board lifter you sent me Peter while I was at Disney Orlando, cant believe that was over 6 years ago.

Cheers

Curious, when did the FOG get started?

And congrats to Chris on your 10th anniversary as a member of the FOG.

Curious, when did the FOG get started?

The FOG as it currently exists began in Jan 2007. However, it existed previously as a "Yahoo Group" which was a forum of sorts on Yahoo.com. That began as early as 2005, but I don't know the exact time frame. Maybe someone else remembers or knows.

Congratulations to all you "Old Timers" on the FOG! -

a timely reminder that none of us would continue to participate in this forum for long if it were not for the untiring and unrewarded (in a material sense) moderators who keep it useful and friendly.

For us at TSO Products it quickly became an asset we tap into with great regularity.

A special Salute and a BIG Thank You to all you contributors!

The first day live in this format for the FOG was January 22, 2007.

I suspect that there will be many anniversaries this year!  My ten year is about a month away.

@joiner1970 , I had forgotten about sending you that.  Thanks for the good memory.  I am glad that you still use it and that you were willing to take it off of my hands.  My foot still hurts when it gets cold.  [eek]

@Shane Holland, congrats Buddy on eventually becoming the SECOND to reach the milestone.  [poke]  See that you are catching up so I better start posting more.   [scared]

Yeah my finger is still numb even though the hospital told me back then the feeling would come back around 2 years after the operation. At least I've got some strength back in my left hand now that's the main thing.

I'm Jan 24 '07.  I sort of remember there was some sort of change in the group and we created new accounts on what is now FOG, but I really don't remember the details.  Jeez, I have trouble remembering yesterday.  8)

Congrats to the members of the 10 year and 10k club...

It should be assumed that the number of systainers is proportional to post count, right?  Or years on the FOG?  Or both?   [blink]

I was lurking in 2007, but I did not join until July of 2009...so not quite 10 years for me. But, it is amazing that this many years has gone by...so quickly.

Yeah I lurked when it was still a yahoo group, before the forum existed in this format, maybe  I was even in the group under another name then. I dont even remember, but time does fly. Well over 9 years for me too.

Just around the corner on 6/24 for me.

A big round of applause for the contributors over all these years. The forum doesn't exists without content.  And in a way also the read only people and lurkers too. If no one was visiting what would the point be?  Even with all the other internet platforms the forum format offers something different in it's depth of information. And depth of information is something that is often required in woodworking and tools.

I started in Jan 22 2007 also.  I've learned so much from everyone on this forum it would take a big book to write it all down. Thanks everyone!

Pretty sure the orig. group was late 2003 or very early 2004.

I remember it coincided closely with the $59 ES150 promotion that was short lived.

The guy that started it founded several groups in that era if I remember correctly.
