I just noticed on a Festool vender website for the new TSC 55 kit that the kit now comes with a very long 55 ft guiderail:
"The Festool TSC 55 Cordless Track Saw is the result of years of innovative research and ingenuity. ... The Cordless TSC 55 Plus-XL-FS model comes with a 55ft guiderail. ..."
Now you can set up and trim up to 55 ft - perhaps on a long floor or roof line - with just one setup. Or you can cut the new rail into those non-standard sizes that you always wished Festool made.
In a big win for those installing underlayment for the playing fields in American football stadiums, you can now put six of these together and accurately trim the long side of the field without stopping. Similarly, with an extra set of batteries, you can now trim the deck of even the longest aircraft carrier with just three 6-rail setups - although you might need an extra 118in track for good measure. When someone tries this, please report on the deflection of the guiderail over that length. I'm thinking it may be a tad more than .01mm, which might make it impractical for serious use.
