The episode today on DIY had Tom Silva using two of the original 1080's bolted together and boy were they torn up!  He actually uses his tables and they had scoring lines and gouges all over. I'm not talking about a few scoring lines here and there. We are talking major canyon like gouges. Made mine look almost pristine!  I don't feel nearly so bad anymore about the condition mine is in. I recently started using Durham's rock hard putty to fill the in the more egregious attacks I have made upon my table. Doesn't look all that great but it works. |

Howard, I can't bring myself to cut into my MFT top other than the one for the hinged guide rail. I use mine as a work surface and I don't want the rough surface to get in the way of assembly. I keep luan handy for cutting across top of my MFT. Call me a wimp.

This leads to another TOH observation. Have any of you noticed how much more Festool presence there is on the show these days? I have seen many of the tools used: Routers, sanders (including the RAS), jig saw, tables, rails, DC, drills, Domino, and systainers all over the place.

I agree. My son and I yell out "festool!" everytime we see one being used. I can somewhat date the shows by the new tools Tom uses. He recently started using the T15 that show must be fairly new.

It just goes to show, when you have to buy tools to make your living, the inferior one's start to disappear. It seems he found something he can count on and that is easy to move from jobsite to jobsite. I still chuckle when I think about tom and kevin's 100.00 picnic table that they use 4k in tools to build. Brice- I use my table for a work surface and assembly as well. It only has one cut mark on it. I usually cut on horse's. My kapex mft is a different story, I have cut marks going everywhere on it. I like that little table. |

I am the same. I just cannot cut into the tables. I do cut on them, but I put something between what I am cutting & the table top. |
