Anyone going to the Woodworking Show in Somerset, NJ next month? I think it's the 24th through the 26th. Someone suggested that I put this out there in case meetings were desired. Perhaps a breakfast gathering prior to the show? The only places I know up there, I'm in South Jersey, are the Edison  diner on Route 1 and another diner, whose name escapes me at the moment, just south of 287 off Exit 5. The show is at exit 9, I believe... I would ask my son, who lives off Exit 5, but he is not as anal about food as I.  I usually try to attend on Friday, when most people are at work.  However, a Saturday or Sunday attendance is not out of the question. Sometimes the best deals are on Sunday when the vendors attempt to unload as much stock as possible so they do not need to schlep it back home. That's where I picked up my Sawstop ICS last year.  In case you never attended this show in the past. Some years there are more vendors than exhibitors/exhibitor-vendors. Other years, it's the opposite. It actually is a great place to get those things you forgot you needed and are willing, on occasion, to stand in a long line to do so.  |

Hmmm... I never thought about Friday traffic on the way home. Whenever I attended in the past, I would visit my son and his family afterwards so JR & I got a late start heading home. Good catch... Friday is great for me, but others probably not so great. Weekend it is. I am definitely up for attending, and would really enjoy meeting beforehand or during. My wife and I will be there, at least on Saturday. We are members of the Hudson Valley Woodturner's club and I will be doing a demonstration of offset/eccentric turning techniques to create pendants and other jewelry on the lathe. I don't know what time we're scheduled for... I'll find out and report back here. It would be nice if some of you were in the neighborhood and stopped by to say hi during the demo.

Of course, the vendor sponsoring the "education" is there to sell, but the information and techniques presented were quite good. Those that have an interest in Marc <sp?> Sommerfeld's method of cabinet building should sit in on his shows. Depending on your point of view, either leave you wallet at home or make sure there is some room remaining.  |

Any Festool dealers going to be there? I cannot seem to find a complete listing of dealers/vendors. There is a floorplan that shows several (notably Lee Valley and Peachtree, woo hoo...) but it looks a bit thin. No listing I can find, are my eyes that far gone? Aw Meyers will be there selling some Festool goodies. I will be there on Saturday and Sunday helping out.
The sommerfeld booth always puts on a decent show, I usually pick up a trick or two. Kreg tools is usually there also and they sell some blemished tools for a good price.

Dave beat to the punch on this. AW Meyers is always there with a very good selection of Festoy er... Festools to play with. Last year I bought their Sawstop off the floor because they did not want to schlep it back north. Got a great price on it too.  I never knew about Kreg selling blemished stuff. Guess it was all gone by the time I arrived, even on a Friday morning. |

Guess I better warm up the Mastercard... There is a wood-porn place in Fairfield about 40 road-miles north of Summerset. I have been wanting to get there to look around, they have some gorgeous slabs: http://www.woodboardsandbeams.com/woodslabs.htmlThey advertise that they have their own mill and and seem to offer pretty fair prices on S4S and rough lumber. Does anyone have any experience with them? I am considering making this an overnight trip, perhaps hit here Friday and then be at the show when the doors open Saturday. RMW |

I checked out their web site. Not bad, not bad at all... Thanks for posting... Some of the prices were a bit on the high side, but most appeared to be reasonable. Especially around these parts where there is a dearth a good woodworking shops and suppliers to same. Sheetgoods too are in rare supply. I know of one east-coast Foger (or as my son calls us, Fogets) that drives to Philly to get his fix.  |

Guys around the shore will drive to Industrial Plywood in Reading when they have big plywood jobs, on common cabinet grade stuff they can be 1/2 the cost of Fess-Hall in Pennsauken.
I keep trying to come up with a project that needs a Wormwood slab. No inspiration yet.

If you are looking to browse slabs, I would call first because they don't keep them at the Fairfield location. To be honest I was pretty excited by the website, but it makes the place seem much nicer than it is. I may be have been spoiled by the lumber years in the SF bay area though.
