Go with the hard rubber Mallet for tools and a soft one for timber (especially soft woods)

Hi,

Nupla makes a nice dead blow hammer with interchangeable faces that range from very soft to very hard and brass. Nupla Impax. Available as a set or in some individual face combinations.

I have a couple of Thor hammers with interchangeable faces; one plastic 412 and one nylon 712. One is set up for assembly (plastic 412), one set up for using with tools like chisels etc. (nylon 712). They have quite a range of heads from very soft to quite hard.
