The size of the base seems like it would really limit the amount of detail you could pick up.
No scribing brick or stone with this tool...
A simple compas will never beat scribing something like brick work in detail but to me this tool seems handy for scribing skirting and plinths etc where you are not wanting to go into to much detail scribing all you want is just a nice constant flow which is better with a wider base.

...but a pencil taped to the top of a wooden block works just as well for those applications.
I understand that some people like shiny bits and expensive tools, but this one doesn't do it for me.

1 of those carbide inserts screwed to a block of wood would work the same too if you need the scoring function, I think to many people need gadgets to do their job now when simple stuff works fine

I know I read that but like you said! Some people (ME) like shiny stuff!
BUT
still a block of wood is time waisting if you only had to make ONE maybe still annoying though that you have to go and rip/cut a piece of wood to the depth you want for scribing to place your pencil on top to then tape it down in place and if you have various depths to scribe you end up making a few blocks. Easier having a tool like that you can just turn it to required depth you want.

You mean like this
. Was thinking the same thing.
I was thinking more like this...
btw, your brick scribing motivated me to do this with the tile. So where do I send the bill for the few hours of my life I won't get back?

To me it seems targeted at matching floors and walls - think it'll do those well
Not trying to sound over simplistic, but a pencil taped to the top of a wooden block works just as well for those applications.
Its a nifty gizmo, but I don't think its worth $80, or even $10 for that matter.
Showoff. Nice work though! Glad I could bring some misery to a fellow Fogger.
