PLEASE READ THIS!  I know that I am shouting - I meant to.

There have been several recalls of books regarding electrical wiring aimed at homeowners and do it your selfers

Please check to see if the book you are buying or using is or is not listed.

Taunton Press:  http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09078.html

Nine others:  http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10104.html

I posted this in another thread, but for the safety of our viewers decided to create a separate topic also.

Thank you for your concern.  There's actually one of those books in my library.  Oops.  Eek!

Peter,

That's been out for a bit. The specific error had to do with wiring a GFCI (where the labels for ground and neutral were reversed), and the error only appeared in certain editions of the book. (It's correct in my 2002 edition).

You can see the erroneous pages here: http://activerain.com/blogsview/992433/wiring-books-recall

Thanks for the warning.

Best,
Steve

Just as an FYI, they have reissued the book in a fourth edition with all the information updated:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1600852610/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=1561581135&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=01TAR3WJSCX856Z1H3EY

It looks like whomever was responsible for the photo editing mislabeled two photos.   Those photos got bought by a number of publishers and now all those books are recalled.  Everything from a landscaping book to the Cauldwell book.  If you can accept that mistakes happen, and you want the best book on wiring, I still recommend the revised edition of the Cauldwell book.  You can bet that after a recall they went over the entire book with a fine tooth comb and all the info is correct.  It's a shame, but not the author's fault.

I'm from Holland but I stayed some time with my gf in the USA. In order to do some repairs and modifications to the electrical system, I bought a few books to get familiar with the code. I guess I bought the correct books. But I think if you handle it with some common sense and a little experience, you will see where the books are wrong. But the books should be right, all the time!
