Hi all -
This is my first post but have been reading/lurking for a while. While I thought my first post would on how to do something with a tool/wood, I thought I would start with a home improvement question. This is a terrific discussion board and i'm amazed at the craftsmanship i've seen here. Gives me something to strive for.
The boss, a.k.a. wife, and I are looking to have some windows replaced in the house. We chose the window, Andersen 400 series (this isnt a question about which windows are best) and are finalizing in choosing a contractor, which is where my question begins. The quotes we rec'd are somewhat all over the place, making it hard to recognize what is a fair price, both for us and the contractor (I believe in paying for quality and building relationships for people who do work on my house).
We gave the contractors a list of requirements for the work - pvc trim (5/4 X 3 1/2), cornice at the top, bull nose sill, aluminum drip caps - so we can remove as many variables as possible from the quotes. The windows are rather large - 30"x60" - and we're opting for new construction windows.
If anyone has done this work to their home, can you provide some ball park pricing on what you paid?
Thanks all.
