BuilderBob remarked that someone should start a JLC thread.

Consider it done.

So...

Who's planning on attending?
How many days are you attending?
Any free admission codes?

And, most importantly...

Not Worthy Are we all going to stand around while Kreg holds court at Union Station Brewery, or was it Trinity, again?

I'm planning to be there again for Fri-Sat.

Usually fly to Providence, but I might drive if a friend of mine from Maine has some slate ready. That's kind of hard to pack into the suitcase I hear  Smile

What's the over/under on the Domino XL being on display at the booth?

Since I am the one who suggested starting the thread  Wink I will be present definitely Friday.  I only live about an hour away, so I'll see about returning Saturday.  I have always had other engagements/commitments in the past that have prevented me from staying after the expo for the "after party ".  I hope something will be planned this year as I plan on making sure that I don't have anything forcing me home!  I look forward to meeting more peeps this year!

Planning to attend JLC this year, last year it was a last minute maybe, but this year I am actually making plans  Smile

It will be the first time and I have some questions as to how things work.....

Are the clinics (not dealer demos) in the exhibit hall? In a seperate area?

Are the pay x $ packages  when registering the only way to get into the clinics, or are they also ala carte on site?

Are the clinics first come first served on site or do you sign up for them when registering?

Is there enough going on on the exhibit floor to keep me busy for two full days, if I don't do any clinics?

Gotta get this all figured out  Big Grin

I have attended this thing since the 70's (I think I was at the very first when the parking lot across the street was a mud pit).

Anyways...

The clinics, if I understand your question, are free and held on the showroom floor.  The seats at the popular ones fill fast.  Gary Katz (he'll probably build that same bookcase Wink ), Myron Ferguson <sp?> and Michael Byrne <sp?> are great draws so if you think you'll want to attend one or more of their clinics, plan on getting a seat as the prior clinic finishes.

Because each clinic runs for between 30 - 45 minutes , there is plenty to fill the two days of the show.  I would recommend that once the program guide is available on the JLC site, get a copy and plan your clinic attendance accordingly.

Bring plenty of cash or make sure you have room on you CC or ATM card. Wink  Some of the deals are great, others... so, so...

If you have a passion for Bosch, a dealer in the NE attends and some of the prices they offer at the show are great.

During the raffle, and sometimes during the show, free beer is available to all attendees.  Scared

I only attend the show so the prior two evenings, I have no information.

That said, on Friday evening after the show closes, you will find plenty of attendees at some of the restaurants and watering holes within walking distance of the hotel where the show is held.  I was half joking further up this thread when I noted our very own Kreg holding court.  Last year there were about 14-18 people at his table on Friday night.  You could not get close. Twice we attempted to introduce ourselves but someone always seemed to get to his table just before we.  Of course, you'll not miss him walking the show floor with his Stars and Stripes bandanna.

The members of this group are a great bunch of guys and gals.  If a majority of those that are attending let it be known they will be there, plenty of gatherings will ensue; before, during and after the show.

Hope to see you, and many others, there.

Hmmm,

Maybe I am calling the clinics by the wrong name. The registration schedule  has pricing such as $450.00 for four day conferance and pick ten clinics/classes.  $200 for Friday and pick three, etc. These all include pass to the exhibit hall. And the time table suggests that they are much longer than 30 - 45 minutes.   Huh?

Link to schedule

The clinics in the exhibit hall are free, and are well worth your time.
The classes are more along the lines of continuing education. And then there are some manufacturer demonstrations, as well.

First year I went, I signed up for a couple of classes. Perhaps I just didn't hit the right ones, but they were rather underwhelming. The last couple of years I've just gone to the expo hall clinics - Gary's always got a good theme going, same with Mike Sloggatt's framing. Byrne's tile clinic is not only informative, but he's a riot. Jed Dixon is there doing something with stair parts, etc.

Some of the clinics will repeat from Fri to Sat, but not necessarily. So pick what you want to see and plan accordingly. Show up 5 mins early to get a seat.

There are some good deals to be had. I left last year with a nice Stabila package.

And part of the fun is going to the Festool booth and getting to test out some of the tools/accessories that I've only seen online.

Green. I will be there!   Looking forward to meeting you. Just push them out of the way and say hey green is here !!!

Yep I will be wearing my usual outfit so I am not hard to miss just grab me and say hey !!

Looking forward to holding court again !  And seeing friends and meeting new ones!   Couple years ago I had a group of 15-16 people for dinner. I left for 5 minutes to talk to another group and came back to the table and everybody had an American flag bandana on. !!!  Sue and Greg did that as a tribute it was amazing

So this year Jlc will be awesome. And looking forward to seeing Shane and bugging him!  And all the other guys save up your money to buy tools and pants from blaklader

Is the Westin actually connected (physically) to the Convention center?

How does it compare to the Courtyard  Marriot one block away?  Is the walk to the Courtyard by Marriot no problem or a nuisance crossing streets etc, possibly with arm loads of goodies?

Worth the price difference for the Westins convenience?

The Westin is connected. The westin is also connected to the mall by a footbridge. There is plenty of restaurants there and my family comes with me to jlc so now they have something to do.

I REALLY wish I was going make the trip again this year from Canada, but sadly I think I will have to skip it this year. I decided to take a drastic change in direction employment wise, so money is tight.

I'll miss my sidekick Kreg! We kidnapped him last year, and I am sure he will attest, fun was had by all! NO PICTURES Kreg!  Scared

Good luck with your new direction, Scott. Maybe we'll see you next year.

So, this year we're doing something kind of special for you guys up in the Northeast. Check out the details that follow and register to attend at http://www.festoolusa.com/connect.

Let's get together in Providence!

Register to attend Festool Connect at JLC Live in Providence, Rhode Island on Thursday, March 22nd from 10a-3p ET. This will be a great opportunity for us to, well, connect with you personally away from the hustle and bustle of the JLC Live clinics and exhibits. We want you to be our guest as we host a day of learning, socializing and of course demonstrating several new products that will be introduced in the coming months. This is an exclusive event for Festool enthusiasts only the day before the JLC Live show.

What will I see and do at Festool Connect?

We'll start the day at 10am in the Rotunda Room of the Rhode Island Convention Center with an exclusive 2012 new product showcase. Watch live demonstrations and learn about the features and benefits of several new tools launching the first half of the year, including the PLANEX Drywall Sander. At noon, we'll kick back and enjoy each others company with some time to mingle as we treat you to a nice lunch. In the afternoon, we'll give you a sample of our Festool Training Classes as we cover tools and applications selected by you. Sounds fun, right?!

As appreciation for you registering and attending Festool Connect, you'll get a complimentary lunch, a complimentary JLC Live exhibit hall pass, a free Festool shirt and be entered in a random drawing for a prize. Must be present to win and at least 18 years of age, Festool employees, dealers and affiliates are not eligible to win.

Festool Connect Providence

Is that cool or what?  Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Yeah, and now we're back to leaving at 03:00 in the morning.  Crying

In years past, we would normally get up at 03:00, race up to Providence, hit the show floor and then fall into bed Thursday night, exhausted.  Instead, this year we decided to head out Thursday morning and take a leisurely ride up 95, arrive late afternoon to relax, grab a meal and be rested and ready come Friday morning.

Oh well, best laid plans and all that.  Beating a dead horse

It's just about 6 hours from here to Providence.  It all depends on the traffic getting through New York.  Sometimes we sail through, others, it's a slogfest... Unsure
