[Project 7] 7-drawer Sys-port
« on: May 20, 2018, 12:39 PM »
Bob ( @marino or @Marino83 not sure which handle is his ) Marino delivered another Christmas present to me Saturday morning.

75" guide rail and 7 Sys A-z Drawers.

A couple weeks ago I had picked up some gorgeous 3/4" baltic birch plywood, 2 sheets of 5' x 5', in preparation for making a Sys port.

I am getting tired of stacking and unstacking all my systainers when I need them. It's a small thing but it does get old.

Here's the plan:
Sys 1
Sys 1
Sys 2
Sys 2
Sys 2
Sys 4
(extra Sys 2 space)

Going to paint the inside white and outside grey to match my garage walls.

Butt joints with dominos for joinery.

I got some nice 5" casters from Amazon should work well.

Yesterday I got the sides, bottom and top cut out.

This morning I got up and drilled all the holes - I don't have an LR32 system so I just measured carefully. Hopefully it works out.

I made the cabinet 18.25" deep when the Systainers only need 14-15" I think.

I'm going to see if I can do some low profile clamp storage on the back, inset, since I have about 60" height. We will see!!

Matt

Hey Matt, things are looking good, I need to make a couple of those myself.

FWIW...rather than spending $535 for a LR 32 Set, I purchased the Woodpeckers Shelf Pin Template for $69. It's a great alternative if you don't make a bunch of cabinets everyday.

I have the Rockler jig and it works pretty well

http://www.rockler.com/pro-shelf-drilling-jig

The Woodpecker jig looks cool for shelves but I'm not sure how you would drill the holes for the back of a slide, if the depth of your case isn't 37mm from the appropriate hole. Maybe I'm missing something?

I’m wondering the same myself.  It seems like they could have offered 1-2 more setbacks like the did for the 1/4” holes.  Strange that they didn’t.

OK team big glue up tonight ! Bessey clamps arrived so tonight was the night.

Hoping everything is square.

You can start to make out the 3-4 inch space in the back where I plan on storing the clamps vertically.

@jobsworth yes sir I did haha. Not even ashamed. It's nice to have a hobby that you enjoy and can just spend an hour or two here and there and come back to it every few days when you have time.

In total this cabinet will probably take me 3-4 weeks to make but I enjoy the process. I'm still learning a lot.

Got up early this morning and removed the clamps. The drawers fit!

Painted the back (where the clamps will mount) white last night.

Next steps:
1) Put the casters on
2) Paint the outside 2 sides and top grey (same color as the front lip)
3) Design and add cleats for the Bessey clamps to mount on the back.

Then she's done!!

Will send pictures this weekend after the above!

Matt

Matt - the color combination looks great.

I think this is the first Sysport I've seen with handles on the side.  That's a great idea!

Thank you so much everyone. Really appreciate it!!

Last step is to mount the clamps on the recessed back for storage.

It’s a tight fit - laid them out on the table to the exact dimensions.

I like the Bimmer in the background... [big grin]

Also very clever of you to move your wife's shoes to the garage to presumably make more room for your own shoes in the closet. [not worthy]

Great job! Nice work. Color combination is classy.
