Hey all! I've been doing built in cabinetry for a few designers sporadically for a couple of years. This is the latest build that I was fortunate enough to be included on! The cabinet is in the former location of a mudroom closet. It is sunken into a 24" space plus framing, so the spec on the cabinets were 28" deep. For the doors, I used a 1/4" dado stopped from both ends on the stiles and straight through on the rails. Then I used the domino to make my rail to style connections. I used a 1/4" center panel and used the molding as an applied molding that has a rabbet to sit on both the panel and face of the doors. The drawers were fashioned in the same style. All of the hardware is Blum soft close. The three upper doors have the Blum Aventos HK closers (they're wicked sweet)! I delivered the unit primed and their painter is going to have fun painting!!! Looks good Bob. Nice job. I was gonna ask if this was the project you used the Fuji on but I see you only primed it. Ya the painter will have a lot of fun on that. I wonder if the designer speced hand painted or sprayed? Most of my comments are design related. It would have nice to be able to wrap the crown around your cabinet rather than butt the top rail to the bottom of the crown. How does the top of the the bottom cabinet integrate with the chair rail? It's hard to tell from the photo's? No big deal just curious. Tim |

I bet the home owners are really happy. It looks like theres two hinges close together on that door, are they heavy enough for more than 2 hinges?

Tim, I used the Fuji to spray the primer! I really like the gun & system...I think it'll be much better on less viscous materials!
The designers that I'm working with on this project are newer in the business on their own as a duo. They wanted to give their painter work as well, so he's going to brush on site!
The cabinets were built to accommodate the existing chair rail perfectly...I had to tweak the existing since whoever installed it originally didn't know how to read a level, but it's mint now...when I took the pic, I still had to fit that one piece that you see missing...oops!
The crown molding in the house was interesting. The detail is an astragal at the bottom...a 1" space of exposed wall, an inverted colonial base and then crown to the ceiling. The homeowner was a wreck about disturbing the moldings, so they delicately designed this to only have the astragal wrap the build. It looks more acceptable in person than photo.

Duburban, the middle larger section of doors all have 3 hinges...more for the purposes of keeping warpage down. I'm sure 2 hinges would be sufficient...the odd layout of hinges was because of the design of that drawer underneath, so I brought that hinge up closer to the center hinge...hindsight, I could've set the center hinge "off center" and made a slightly more appropriate look...I shot photos to the designers and they said go! The homeowners are very pleased...they want custom vanities for 3 of their bathrooms in the fall! I'm in for that!!! Bob |

Thank you awil! The end goal was to make everything look as if it were original to the house...even though it's only a 12 year old house. The wainscoting/shadow boxes were terribly put together by the original builder, but that runs through most of the house and they aren't interested in reworking that mess yet!

Thanks for the kind words!
The final product was painted on site by painters that I've worked with in the past. The doors and drawer fronts were hvlp sprayed and the casework and face frames were brushed & hot dog rolled. The paint was Sherwin Williams Pro Classic Hybrid. The finish looks nice in person as well as in photo!

Thanks NY! I agree with you on the drawers! I was trying to push the designers to go with flat drawer faces as they look so sharp on the inset style. No go...they wanted that molding. In those situations, I'm just a yes man! I do appreciate your opinion! That's why we're all here! Bob |

That's a negative! Hardware wasn't on site until after they were painted (I knew the specs so that I was assured they'd fit my space). I used my awesome hardware drilling jig! (precision casework) Bob |
