My toolbox 2.0
« on: March 30, 2015, 11:36 PM »
I work in a shop during the day and in my own shop during the evenings.  While they provide some old cabinets to use to store my tools, it didn't seem fitting to use them to store good quality tools. Working long days and becoming frustrated with an unorganized work area, I decided to remedy the chaos! Tools without a home, and sharing a fridge and microwave with a shop full of guys and a slight addiction to coffee made this happen. I built it at my shop and brought it into work. Next, side cabinets built with drawers like a sysport!

Thank you very much!  Seth, I do plan on adding locks, but locks are only there to keep honest people honest.

I think Peter would say 'Spot on' or 'absolutely brilliant'!  And then I would have to agree with him!

Seems to be missing the kitchen sink, but that's about it... [big grin]

Teocaf, thusfar there hasnt been an issue with any warping. I also have a door on the back that has clamps behind it. It is all prefinished maple ply and everything is edgebanded on all sides. My OCD would drive me crazy if there was unsealed edges.

Being in the automotive circle the first thing I thought when the pics loaded was "Cool, SnapOn for a wood man".  Sweet setup.  Bet the guys at the shop are jealous.

Scorpion, I partly blame my mechanic and his giant 4 bay Snap-on box! He has the top hutch and side cabinets to make his toolbox about 12 ft wide and almost 8 high.

You chose an excellent pattern...you probably could build 2 of yours and fully outfit them with Festools for less than he paid (and maybe then some) for just his box.

Ditto. I have always toyed with doing something similar after parting ways with my Snap On roll cab.  Awesome job!!!

Thanks again everybody! I looked at Snap on and Matco, but the prices are up there and they are not set up for woodworkers at all! Took their idea and ran with it.

Very nice tool box,  It looks like you have a metal frame under it that the caster are attached to?  Are the cabinets all flat bottomed and then fastened onto the metal frame?

Lucky for me, the shop bathroom is about 20 steps away and I didn't need to add a composting toilet, although I do have plenty of sawdust for just such a thing!
I did have the metal frame built by a friend so the casters could be bolted to that and the cabinets could all be screwed down with Tec screws. Just cabinet boxes built like normal but on a metal wheeled toe kick
