This was the last job of last year, fitted a week before xmas. The customer supplied the oak, reclaimed bits from his local pub refurb. Quite a hassle to be honest and quite a few improvisations along the way.  The finish was not my choice, I wanted to do dark oak but customer wanted natural look so hard wax oil finish. Chimney breast space where the unit was to go.  Unit fitted in a day but I'm not happy with the look.  Darn sky box doesn't fit on the shelf built for it.  I fitted drawer and some more trim. I've also got the cabinet led lights on in this pic.  Few more pics     Domino shelf corbel brackets.  Top panel and plinth panel is removable for wiring ie surround sound etc.  Hope you enjoyed. Unit fitted in a day but I'm not happy with the look.
Alex Do you mean the finish or the design/fit? I really think the color shows off your workmanship, I like the bead around the drawer etc.. I think you did a great job. Darn sky box doesn't fit on the shelf built for it.
Where was it supposed to go? On the top or where you put the drawer? Why did this happen? Tim |

Alex, I understand your sentiments regarding how you think a finish would look vs the home owner....but I have to say your piece came out beautiful! Love the domino adjustable shelves! Are those 5 or 4 mm domino mortises?

Thanks Tim and Bob. Tim- the customer had a very basic idea, chunky Chinese import contemporary look that really didn't fit in room but I talked them round a bit eg beading etc. The sky box was suppose to sit on the little shelf above the counter, which it does but after plug cables in the nose sticks out. Edit- Note the finish pictures before adding the drawer where taken on the day I returned to fit the drawer, in that time they had replaced surround sound unit with this bigger unit that you see below sky box. This is all getting confusing.  Bob-yes 5mm domino shelves, I think I'll try 4mm next time. |

Tim- its top of the cabinet that I felt doesn't look right now.
Thanks Seth. The domino used as shelf supports I'd seen on here, just changed it bit to look a bit more traditional.

I love the natural color of the oak, especially next to the light walls.

There's something in the proportions that doesn't seem to "click" for me. I think it's the height of doors v's the panel above ... to me it would have looked more balanced if the glass doors were a little taller. This isn't a comment on workmanship, as I see the quality of the work to be extremely good. Sometimes what a customer wants doesn't give you the latitude you need. Anyway, the important question is "was the customer happy?"  |

I was more drawn to the custom shelf clip! It gave me a thought about trying to implement that and still use 5mm holes. I'm also starting to use 3mm holes for certain line boring applications. I have a designer that I work with & she hates seeing pin holes, so I'm starting to use the smaller 3mm in hopes that she may not notice them as much. The load allowances are less, but you have to give somewhere! Bob |

Brice, I have to say I too was a bit taken back my the size of slots for the domino shelf holders in the close up. If the shelves were 4/4 or greater to hold heavy weights then that would explain the need for the larger holes. When I look at the over all from the other side of the room it is not an issue for me.
