Title: Plane Till
Post by: GoingMyWay on April 18, 2018, 04:57 PM
I just finished building a plane till to hold my growing hand plane collection. I built it out of baltic birch plywood and some 1/4" strips. I based the design on Wood By Wright's Plane Till: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIiLn0J_kD4 with some changes.

It's got a good amount of room for expansion. I'm planning on getting a #7 Woodriver Jointer, a low angle plane, and a scrub plane.  Not sure if I'm missing any other "must have" planes.

The hardest part was getting the 1/4" strips (slightly thicker than 1/4") to fit into the 1/4" dadoes.  I ended up using my favorite double sided carpet tape to stick all the 1/4" strips down together so I could sand 1 face with my ETS 150/3 and then flip over to sand the opposing face.  It took several attempts before they were narrow enough to fit into the dado.

This is great, I'm going to find some camphor wood and build one!
