Really dig it. Looks great. Just got my own place and really taking some time to develop my own tastes, or at least identify what my own taste is when it comes to furniture 'n styling. I like what you've done here.

Hi guys, Thanks for the replies/compliments. @woodguy7: the drawers are a simple butt jointed dominoed box made out of pine with an oak front attached. They slide on wooden runners attached to the "thicker" parts of the table top. (see sketchup drawing} The drawers are not the full depth of the table so there is space behind them to accomodate electrical cables and such. (I hate those messy cables  ) A dowel is inserted in the table top, as a stop so you dont pull the drawers out by accident. The thicker parts (sides and middle) are laminated (same direction as the table top) to minimize problems with wood expanding and contracting. One concern i had is that this construction the way it looks (with the "floating" drawers) is not very strong ( it would flex too much). So i used a piece of 4mm ply on the bottom to make it a sort of torsion box. Ply was routed flush with the sides and middle. I can now park my full weight on it and it don't move. Hope it makes sense (if not...i'll give it another shot  )    |

Hi jgeraert I used 4 12mm dowels per leg. I had a few of those 1 metre long dowel sticks lying around, i cut them into 10cm long pieces. A scrap piece of laminated oak was used to make a doweling jig on the drill press (see picture) Two pieces of MDF screwed to the side of the oak piece are used for aligning the jig.  |

Hey biomedfred,
It's a waterbased polyurethane finish. It's resistant to stains and it leaves the oak lighter than an oil finish.
