Stairs!
« on: December 06, 2016, 10:15 PM »
Hi all! First real post here, other than intro. Thought I would share my project. Building 2 sets of stairs and two landings for our new home! This is my first project with my brand new Domino XL and I am in love! We are building a log home so lots of big timber, posts are 6x6 and stringers and joists on landings are 3x12. I cut almost all the mortises for the basement landing and gluesd up one side of it in roughly an hour! WOW! What a time saver! Anyway, more pics will follow as the job progresses!

Thanks for sharing- I'm looking forward to more pics of the progress.  Always curious about the different uses folks are getting out of the XL.

Progress from yesterday and today! I work full time besides trying to build this house so progression is slow. Basement landing frame is done!

Well done sir.
I personally would not been able to be creative enough to use the domino as a timber framing tool replacement.

A little update on my slow progression for anyone interested! My Domino XL, 2200 router and TS 75 made working these treads and stringers a breeze! Now waiting on some additional clamps to come in and some slow set epoxy, I'm thinking this glue up is going to take a bit of time!

That's impressive! How are you going to manage the assembly?

That's what I'm working on figuring out! The epoxy I'm going to pick up says a working time of 90-110 minutes, I'm gluing all the dominoes into the treads before hand so that'll make things a bunch easier.

Thanks, I plan to do something similar but couldn't figure how to do the glue up. You have thought it out well, going to watch your posts closely!  Mike

That is a serious way to get to know the Domino.  My first runs were not nearly as ambitious [jawdrop]

How are you allowing for wood expansion across the grain of the treads with routed mortices!!?

There is a small amount of gap in the mortises but because of all the wood in the house, I am already having to strictly control humidity so I don't expect too much expansion.
