I've updated the thread with a picture of the final installation component.

The finishing touches (the Bambino) are always the most fun. Congrads.

Congratulations on the new Bambino and in his honor, I would encourage all woodworkers to plant a Walnut Tree so that the future generations will have this great wood to make their children such wonderful furniture Big Grin

I think you will be fine with the Cedar, woodworkers develop allergies to the dust, but it has been used in chests and drawers for hundreds of years.  If you are concerned just seal it with a couple coats of shellac, or buy a couple pieces of Radiata pine at HD.  You should have made that bed a lot bigger, that lil guy is going to outgrow it in 6 months!

Amazing work BTW, love the Walnut.

Thanks for all the kind words, gentlemen!  i have to confess though, the domino was the star of the show and enabled me to complete a project like this.  i would have been cutting mortise and tenons FOREVER if i had to do it by hand and they wouldn't have been nearly as accurate.

Bambino seems to like the install also.  Great work.

Cheers,

Great crib, looks very cozy.  Just out of curiosity, are you going to make another one in 6 months or so, when the little one can pull up and try to climb out?

No I'm not making another one. This is actually a bassinet and is only intended for his first few months. It's basically a small crib that we can keep in our room beside our bed. It was especially handy when he was eating every 2 hours throughout the night. He has a separate full sized crib that will actually transition into a complete bed. I stayed away from building a full sized crib due to all of the safety specs they recommend nowadays.
