By yourself? WOW!!! Yes, nobody help me! Frank, Were the materials prefinished then installed, or installed then finished? Great work, and similar architecture to what I'm used to here in South Carolina. Jon

I used 1/2inch birch plywood, poplar 1x4, 1x6, 4 5/8 crowns, 3/4 cove molding and custom made panel molding. The beams are made also from 1/2 inch birch plywood! Cost for material was $4.500!!!! Great work. All looks really well done and solid. For me it's bit too dark but this is just personal preference. Job itself is fantastic!!

Frank, Nice work, really tight. I was wondering if you used a stain conditioner or wash coat? Looks like the Birch got a bit blotchy.....which it loves to do.

Yes, it certainly looks like birch and poplar, looks like some of the moldings could be pine too. No way I'd want to use those for stain grade work. I know it's not your fault, they gave you a budget to work with. Too bad. The carpentry looks good though.

I don't used stain conditioner. Frank [/quote]
Poplar, birch, cherry, and especially pine really do well with a washcoat or prestain. Old masters stain conditioner for oil based or wash coat of sealcoat for wb or dye. I think you will find the extra step well worth the effort.
