Guide Rail square Woodpeckers OTT
« on: April 19, 2016, 11:10 PM »
what is the general opinion of the just offered features of the Woodpeckers Guide Rail Square One Time Tool?
How important/useful is the ability to be able to use it also for 45 and 30 degree cuts?
What did I miss by not ordering one in time?

Here's a thread about it. However you will have to wait months  [sad] before you can get real world useage impressions by those who have purchased it... one down side to the OTT program for sure

This tool does not square the rail initially, you use a regular square on the opposite side of the rail for that purpose.  What this tool does is "lock in" that squareness for your future benefit.  It actually stays attached to the rail when not in use.

Once set, you simply grab your rail, with this tool attached, and place it on your material and assuming something has not been knocked out of square, your ready to go (like anything else, frequent checks with for accuracy is prudent).

thanks for the insights - how important is the ability to use the square also for 45 and 30 degree cuts?
I have a QWAS guide rail square and it also needs a separate square to set it.

If you leave the square attached does that mean you have to have a place to hang or otherwise store it -can't leave it on the floor leaning against the wall or bench?

Yeah, you would need to store it carefully.  Even if I were interested in the square, I would probably pass on it for this reason alone since I need compact storage capability in my small shop.

Not sure what you mean by 45/30 degree angle setting.  If you're using an MFT, you can rely on the hole pattern to set those angles.

@Edward Reno III - now quite a bit later you can probably understand why we were asking these angle questions.
BTW - both our production GRS-16 Guide  Rail Squares can be housed inside the SYS 4 the TS-55 comes in - no extra space required :)
