Magnetic Feather Board Purchase - Which brand?
« on: April 09, 2018, 02:42 PM »
I’ve got some Rockler feather boards for the table saw which slide into the t-track and work excellent but for anything wider than the t-slot, I’d need a magnetic feather board.

If you have a particular brand or product you can recommend I’d greatly appreciate it.

I have some Grip-tite ones. The company is out of business now and Magswitch seems to have seized the market.  I never had a problem with the Grip-tites but it wouldn't surprise me if they stopped making them out of liability concerns.  A small company making safety devices may be in a tenuous position.

Magswitch makes great featherboards. The magnets turn off and on with a turn of the switch. I’ve made a number of table saw accessories with their switches.

I have a Magswitch for the jointer and a Magswitch for the band saw. They work great 👍.  If I need another, it’ll be a Magswitch.

I don't bother with Magswitchs feather board versions, I found them too easy to move.  I bought several of the 400 and 600 Magswitchs and just butt them up against my material.  I did make a feather board jig for material that is not consistent in width but seldom use it.  I only bought the switches on sale however as they are fairly expensive...Ebay and Amazon warehouse deals are great places to hunt things if you don't want to pay full price.

I'm considering getting the Jessem clear-cut. Did you mount them directly on your fence or on a sacrificial fence? Have a pict to show your setup? please pretty please..

Wow, the Jessem looks amazing especially if it keeps the outfeed past the blade sucked tight to the fence. It’s out of my budget for now so the MagSwitxh will have to do. Thanks for all the info, I’m sure the MagSwitch will do well.

I have the Jessem Clear-Cut TS Stock Guides on my SawStop and they are really cool. They work great! But the MagSwitch featherboards are definitely a good thing too! In fact Ill use BOTH at the same time often if the cut allows it.

A cheaper option might be to use their router table clear cut guides.  You would need one T track channel along the face of the fence.  Depending on your fence construction you could permanently modify it or build a sub fence and devise a secure way to attach it.

I'll try to remember and post a pic tonight. I have it mounte on a unifence with an aftermarket Uni-T-Fence so it's not a standard setup.

Dang, I don't recall them being that expensive when I got em.
