Metabo cordless brushless 400Nm impact wrench
« on: October 12, 2015, 12:30 AM »
Picked this up late last week and still looking for something substantial enough to seriously challenge it!

I got this as a basic skin - came in a cardboard box with a plastic tray that marries perfectly with a Systainer (t-loc). An attic sys2 would fit it nicely - the battery base is wide and the belt clip acts to its width.

It falls to hand quite nicely, is reasonably light (as I have it with a 5.2Ah battery) and has mountains of power delivered through the 1/2" square drive.

This is one of the German manufactured tools.

Why aren't digital torque gauges part of these kind or tools these days? [huh]

Do you have a link to where you got it from?

I think with an impact it would be difficult to integrate torque in as it is banging away in rotation to increase the torque.
It would be nice of the 1-n numbers on non-impact drills were in nm or '# though.

@Holmz

I got it from www.northernabrasives.com.au .. they're my local (their website is rubbish, but if you get on the phone to them they're extremely helpful - they're 10 mins down the road so I'm usually f2f). Still waiting on new brushless hammer drill/driver and angle grinder with the new HD batteries (late next week I'm told), but I did get the cordless SCMS - just haven't had a chance to play with that yet.

Agree, fine calibration would require significant torque sensing smarts/tech - probably more viable on something simply geared. I was thinking something that maybe estimated based on actual rotation v's number of impacts or similar.

Thanks @Kev I'll try F2Phone.

If you have ever torqued wheel nuts you will find that the impact rattle-guns have nothing but brute force, and they work well for removing and less well for tightening a precision fastener. For dry wall screws they are good for clock wise.
