20" Euro jointer planer
« on: October 01, 2017, 01:14 PM »
Just wondering if anybody with a 520 unit would care to comment on their jointer planer, the info on the Minimax/Nova 520 (FS2) online is pretty scarce so I'm reaching out to multiple groups; so far a lot crickets on the MM 520 but its not stocked in the US.

As for me , I am a 1 1/2 man shop, mostly cabinets and built-ins but shifting to hardwood furniture. Found exception price on neglected hickory, white oak and red oak. So, I'm stocking up and letting it dry out.

I'm strongly looking at griggio 530 but also consider the minimax fs 52, and then felder/format 20" @ 7.5-10 h.p. I have Hammer and Felder stuff so I kind of know what to expect, but have never seen or used the upper level of MM, intro Nova...the unit weights over 2,ooo lbs, for what its worth so I am intrigued.  Read a lot of pros/cons on the bigger felder/format, just hoping there's someone here who doesn't abuse their equipment but also doesn't baby it. And they can tell how its performing over the years. I would like to take finer passes and sneak up on dimensioning some 1/8th thick edge-banding and then go into flattening some rough-sawn, 8/4 hickory.

Lastly, would you buy the unit/configuration again given current options?

Thanks,

Erik
