Bosch Reaxx
« on: December 02, 2018, 12:24 PM »
Hi,

I see the Bosch Reaxx portable table saw is on clearance.  Regular 2,000.  Down to 1,200. Canadian.

I am all in with Festool but would like to have a portable table saw.

Does anyone have any experience with this Saw ?

Thanks.

Brian

Where? I thought Reaxx was taken off NA market over patent issues.

I too thought that they were off the market. Our local building supply has had one sitting on the floor for a couple of years now.
Have you walked your saw today?

Off the US market only. SawStop has not pursued the matter in any Canadian court.

"On January 27, 2017, the ITC instituted a ban prohibiting the import of REAXX table saws into the U.S."

Home Depot, Lowe's and others carry it north of the border. I have not known anyone or any shop that owns or uses a Reaxx. None of the vendor sites record any user review.

When they were first announced, I was very interested initially.  I especially liked the fact that the same cartridge could be used for both dado sets and the main blade and also that when triggered, it didn't waste the blade.  To me this was superior to the Saw Stop methodology.

I waited to watch the first reviews and was disappointed to read that several people reported that saw to be underpowered and that Bosch was possibly looking into it.

Then a few months later when I decided to get serious about either the Reaxx or a DeWalt without the safety feature, suddenly the Bosch was removed from the US market due to litigation by SS.

Too bad because I think we all lose when competitive options get squashed.  Due to the lack of US availability, none of the typical reviewers did a comprehensive review that I know of and I never heard anymore about whether the saw was underpowered, or whether those issues were due to early production units.

I have had the Bosch Reaxx since they were first released in the USA.

Only a very few of the early saws were "under powered" due to a simple software problem.  It has been fixed in those few early saws.  I have never had the problem with mine.  The motor itself is not underpowered at all.

Here are some comments I wrote two years ago in response to a Sawstop jobsite comparison video:

Assuming the safety mechanisms are roughly equal (I prefer the Reaxx system), the SawStop jobsite saw's plastic throat plate and plastic "push button" fence look cheap in comparison to the Bosch Reaxx jobsite saw's phenolic throat plate and extruded aluminum fence.  The fence on the Reaxx is beefier than the SawStop's fence.  The Reaxx fence locks at both front and rear, is a strong aluminum extrusion under the replaceable plastic panels, and the Reaxx fence has a built in T-track on top.  I have Jessum Clear Cut guides installed on mine.  Love it.  I would rather NOT have the blade raise all the way with one turn.  There is nothing your cell phone can accidentally do to the Reaxx saw to make it unsafe.  That is basically just a legal disclaimer.  Another plus for the Reaxx is that a belt from the motor drives the blade.  The belt makes it smoother with less vibration.  The Reaxx comes with a sliding outfeed extension and an optional sliding extension is available for the left side of the saw table.  This makes using a crosscut sled or cutting a wide piece of plywood easier and safer.   (I have a Paulk Workbench on the way from Fastcap.)
I have never had mine trip the safety mechanism.

The weight of the motor makes it a little more difficult to change the angle setting.  It is really no big deal and a digital angle gauge solves the problem.

That's a bargain price!  Bosch sent me two free cartridges when I registered the saw.

As I said above, nothing wrong with the saw at all, imo.  The angle adjustment is the main area for improvement.

The Reaxx looks a lot like my Bosch 4100-10. I want to say that table saw I have for the few times I have used it is nice and has the newer gravity rise stand. The Reaxx looks very similar and probably better with the SawStop brake technology. Im assuming that the Reaxx has the older gravity stand, which put the saw at around 39" tall. Not sure what the table height is with the Reaxx, but the newer gravity stand on the Bosch 4100 stands at about 33" from memory, and at 5-8" feels much better. I would imagine if you are 5'10" then the older stand would put the saw at the correct height. I had the older 4100-09 and was able to return the saw unopened to Lowes within 30 days.

In Canada, we have a chain called Rona.  Recently acquired by Lowe’s methinks.

I am in Tantallon, Nova Scotia near the world famous Peggy’s Cove.  Y’all have probably never been.  Swiss Air 111 crashed nearby.  20 years ago.

Hope they still have one in stock on payday !

I went to the Rona site earlier and found the Reaxx, but it shows for me pulling it up at $1999.  Must be a local thing for you guys out there.

https://www.rona.ca/en/brand/bosch-reaxx

https://www.rona.ca/en/reaxx-table-saw-with-rolling-stand-10-15-a-19835858

Wonder if it pulls up online for you in your area at $1200.  If it does, you may want to order it now as my banner looking at it shows that RONA is offering 15% off for online orders from 11AM to 2PM this afternoon.  If you could get this puppy at $1200 with another 15% off that would be a major score.

EDIT:  Oh shoot....just re-read that sale banner.  It says 15% 'regular price'.  Oh well, but I'd try anyways if you can pull it at $1200.

This is worth getting imo even at $1200.  Myself, I would jump on it even if it is just for a second saw.  The saw is actually more robust than it's older cousin 4100.  You also get some of the wings included.  I recall reading some real detailed reviews and comparisons of it a few years ago and it wasn't just a 4100 with the finger saving technology.  There was a whole bunch of enhancements in this Reaxx versus the 4100.

I think you missed  out Brian.  I just went and found this when I pulled up the Tantallon store which now shows an even lower price but with zero stock there.

I also went and pulled up all the other Rona Nova Scotia stores and they all show it still at $1999.  But cheer up, maybe this is just the first store to start clearing them out and there will be another one out there for you.  Just keep looking.

Did it say floor or display model when it was offered at such a low price?

My local Rona (actually HD or Lowe's too) now and then gets rid of its display units or very slow moving items with steep discounts, like 40% to 60% off. But it is not done online.

Lowe's is also starting to renovate and change all Rona in my city into Lowe's (except those that are being closed at the end of their leases).  Ironically, Rona initiated to buy out Lowe's Canada, but it's fate that Rona is going to disappear like Sears.

I actually called RONA and while it is difficult for them to look around and see if other stores have it on clearance, which the girl I spoke to did do for the RONAS in my area just outside Toronto with no luck finding it only at full price, there is maybe some good news here.

A fellow on another forum just mentioned in discussing this also that he says he was told that RONA is actually getting out of Bosch entirely and he started finding Bosch tools at his RONAS and RENO-Depots near him in Quebec that were getting cleared out.

I was in a local Rona Monday that is an old Lansing and walked by the smallish tool area there and they didn't have any Bosch tools on clearance yet.  But maybe it's about to start happening everywhere.  Time to start keeping a lookout for Bosch deals at Ronas probably if that other fellow is correct.

I can't get it to do a nearby store search that automatically shows me which inventory levels are at each store in a list like Lowes.ca can do.  You have to go to each store listed and check them out one by one which is a PITA frankly!

Incidentally, speaking of Lowes, I went and looked for the Reaxx there.  Still full price and they only do a 'vendor direct' sale of the Reaxx, so I doubt we will see it discounted at Lowes.ca.

You can, Kevin. Click the "Check Quantities" box (a few steps down below the "Add To Cart" box), and a pop-up screen will show the inventory of the product in other store locations (in your city(?)). Make sure your pop-up blocker is not on for this site.

Good luck Brian.  Fingers crossed for you.

I recall doing this with the 10inch Bosch Axial Glide when Canadian Tire was clearing them out for $288.  Had to try different stores, but I did find two near me that were willing to price match it against another CT that had it at that clearance price that was much further away from me.  But the key was that the store location that showed it online for $288 still had some in stock.  Here with this Reaxx, that Tantallon store is sold out according to the website.

Did you actually try calling the Tantallon store and see if that inventory amount is maybe not correct and they have one more in there.  Don't just talk to their customer service rep at the front of the store there, get a hold of someone in the Tools/Hardware dept.  Maybe there's a floor model there.  Usually floor models are never counted in online availability numbers.

I'd still grab it and send it in for repair under Bosch's dime if it is truly a defective unit.  It may be nothing and simply a user error problem.

Maybe there is simply something they do to the floor model ones to prevent people from trying to use it in stores while on display that needs to be rectified.

There was a known motor issue with it bogging down that was a firmware problem that Bosch can correct.  At that price, I myself would grab it and take that route if needed.

There is a 30 day satisfaction guarantee on Bosch stuff just like Festool has anyways.
