One time tool late again wood peckers
« on: November 03, 2017, 11:22 AM »
I should have expected this again. This will be the last one I ever buy. The marking gauge was Supposed to ship around the first. Now not till the end of the month. What a joke with these people. I can’t see how they stay in business this way. I’m done with them as I know many as you are also. Had to vent some.

While I only have a handful, I've been quite pleased with all my woodpecker tools and will continue to buy them as needed. As for OTTs, I don't bother with expected ship dates, they ship when they ship, and it has always been a treat when they show up at my doorstep. YMMV

If you really need them, there aren't any better tools on the market. If other tools will suffice, then, of course, they are an extravagance and a pain, given the cost and the wait time.

If Woodpecker misses a deliver date by only 30 days that is VERY Good!! I have a bunch of Woodpecker tools and will continue to buy one time tools that fill a need of me.

I just don’t understand all of the angst involved with a OTT shipping late. I do understand that a Christmas 🎄 present delivered in January is a disappointment, but that doesn’t mean I no longer celebrate Christmas.

I’d certainly hope no one is bidding a job based on the anticipated delivery date of a OTT. I look at them as a way to make my life easier, nothing more, nothing less. In reality, you need nothing more than a sharp piece of flint and a flat rock to complete most any woodworking project.  [tongue]

That’s the beauty of working with wood...not so much with the fabrication of steel or iron.  [eek]

Comical.

OTT is a collector's business model. If you see it differently you need to take a dose of "WAKE UP".

I just place my order and forget about it. When the toy arrives, it is a much enjoyed surprise.

I like others here just order them, and treat it like a pleasant surprise when they show up. That said, it has become an irritating regularity for them to ship 4-6 weeks late every time.

And I too have slowed my interest in them - but more because many of them are barely more functional than much cheaper counterparts than because they are late. Many are truly "collector bait", kind of like the Kincaide Christmas figurines for sale in the Sunday paper......

Another month has gone by and no ship date yet. This will be the last ott for me. Why don’t they make them a head of time and sell them. First come first served. It cant take 7 months.

Interesting information. I recently received my first OTT, which came over a month behind the estimated shipping date. I had no idea it was a common occurrence with Woodpecker. I had even emailed them when it was a month late, as I had a project waiting for its arrival.

If woodpecker is consistently over promising and under delivering, they need to change their business model.

I'll definitely have this in mind if there is ever another OTT that I'm interested in.

On the other end of the spectrum,  I have ordered the large triangle they recently sold, and they sent me an email stating they would start shipping right away, for a one time tool that was not supposed to be delivered until late January.   I responded that I would prefer to receive it in January (as I already have other tools I am purchasing between now and then), and they responded they would wait until January to ship mine.

I had the impression that OTT deliveries had gotten better because I did not see as many complaints. Now Woodpecker seems to be slipping again. I do agree that they should shift to the under promise and over deliver approach.

Anybody receive the work holding system that was scheduled for November?

When was the last time your OTT Ferrari arrived on time?

It happens, just the nature of the beast.

I have to question the compentancy of a company who runs on a just in time model yet consistently misses their production targets.

Getting fanboys to preorder tools so material needs along with production time can be accurately forecast is a production managers dream. It's not like they have thousands of parts from hundreds of suppliers going into these OT Tools.

Missing by a couple of days , sure.  Consistently missing by months means you're lazy or don't know what you're doing and aren't learning from prior mistakes.

Lots of people like red cool-aid though, so they must be on to something.

Starrett makes very accurate measuring tools that I think are better than WP's. My opinion only.  And they sure don't have that pretty red color or the French Fit storage container.

But then again, I don't have to wait on one either.

Yea Im not too happy about having to wait longer for the marking gauge either. I hate the business model but until someone else steps up and starts making similar quality tools for the same price or less we are stuck with their crappy OTT concept.
