Help! trying to get information on my old woodwork bench. No longer seems to fit my style of woodworking and could really use the extra space. What I need to know is how old it really is but cannot find any info on it. Things I do know, made in Germany and is big and heavy. Also made of beech. Any knowledge out there.

Thanks for all the knowledge out there guys! Big Grin What I have found out is that it is identical to an Ulmia bench which is also german. Also found that they make great tables in homes and fetch a good price.

I tried to find something and I ended up on a site that makes $2500+ hand planes.

I saved the link and if I ever buy one it's YOUR FAULT  Eek!

Got one myself.... the problem isn't being tempted by a $2500 plane... the problem is stopping at one.

Konrad Sauer does fabulous woodwork too - take a look at his personal work on the site .

The purpose of Sauer and Steiner, Bridge City, Brese, Holtey, etc. is to convince ourselves that Veritas are a bargain. A good bargain is hard to pass by, right?

Found this reference in the Workbench Book -

It suggests Ulmia the company was founded in 1877 in Ulm Germany.  The website is at ulmia.de.

You might contact the company with pictures of your bench to get a bit more info on when it was built.
