I see the price is now 1899 on eBay.

I am thinking about jumping on this deal and selling my 1Ds Mark iii.  I love my 1Ds but I am thinking the AF and high ISO may makeup for it not being a 1D body.

Anybody else on here still using the 5d mark iii?

I have one and it is a great camera...one of many bodies. It is not a 1D in build, but it is light weight and takes awesome pics. I plan on getting the new 1DX when it is released next year, assuming the rumors hold true.

If i had the cash for a 1DX I would go for that quick.  I am not sure how much better the 1DX mark II can be over the mark I.  I guess higher ISO and a little better dynamic range.  I don't think the megapixel would go up much for the 1d body.  Time will tell I guess

I think that the focusing will be better. It is awesome on the new 7D.

The 5DIII is a very nice camera. I've been on holiday and had the opportunity to shoot around 800 pictures. Very happy with the camera performance.

What I'm really waiting for is someone to produce a high quality full-frame low-light mirrorless super compact monster with a high quality collapsible 24-70mm f/2.8 lens so I can sell off all of my Canon bulky kit and actually own something that I would bother carrying with me every day rather than on special occasions only.

If Fuji just got their act together and mated a Sony A7R sensor with a X-E2 sized body and a lens the size of a m4/3 Olympys 14-42 Zuiko that would be a winner or if Sony came out with a RX2 with a high quality collapsible 24-70 lens that's still pocketable I'd be a happy camper. (providing that the price would drop too)

Thanks @Cheese,

Oddly enough probably today the walk-around camera I would go for if I was going on a casual trip would be the new Sony RX100 mk IV (http://www.kenrockwell.com/sony/rx100-mk-iv.htm), but I cringe at its price point for a point-and-shoot nevertheless.

I'm also following the Sony a7rII with a hawk eye as a possible replacement to my aging 5D mark  II, but I'm not totally convinced on how well the adapted Canon lenses would work on this one as I have way too much money stuck in L-lenses to just dump them. Also the A7 body + Canon lenses will still not make a portable camera =(

Maybe mounted with an Canon EF40 f/2.8 STM it would be smallish, but not with a 24-70 f/2.8... ;-P

Currently noticing that I'm taking my wife's Nikon 1 AW out more often than my Canon even though the Nikon with its dive proof kit lens and weather sealing isn't exactly small either. Just being lazy I guess.
The sky's the limit in my workshop, literally. [big grin]

Well I got my new 5d Mark iii in this week.  Its a great camera but I would call it only a little better then the 1Ds mark iii I am going to sale.  I think the IQ is about the same or a little better with the 1DSiii.  The High ISO is better on the 5Diii but at a cost in a bunch more money.

I think it will match up with my 1D IV great.

My last holiday I carried my 7D and 5DIII. I actually liked that because I had my 70-200 on the 7D and 24-70 on the 5D. Great combo for me.
