Last night was the only time I ever watched a baseball game (on TV) all the way through.
My Mother-in-law (from Chicago) made me do it, but it was worth it.

This town has gone nuts with celebrating and will continue to do so through the weekend ( 108 years waiting  means you've stored up a lot of emotion ).  [big grin]

An article in the Associated Press described it as the most exciting series game 7 in baseball history.

Congrats Cubbies!

It was a privilege to watch it with my 19 year old son. He made it home from work by the 4th inning and just the two of us spent time together in my shop watching the game. We talked about my grandparents who were North Siders and lived their entire lives as fans. My grand father coached little league and would of loved this Series Win.

In 2002 my older son and I went to Florida to see 3 games against the Marlin, we were up 3-1 and lost the series after a curse was placed by one of our own fans reaching into the outfield and blocking a catch, so we never made it to the the World Series. He is now 32, so this time with my younger son I was glad to beat that curse.

It HAD BEEN 108 years since the Cubs had won a World Series.  That's even a little longer than I have been 39. [laughing]

Dominicans, Cubans, Canadians, some Players from Japan. I'm sure I missed some countries.

Besides, a bit of puffery isn't so bad. It's like thinking your country is a continent, when it's really just an island.

They first refereed to the game as the world series as far back as 1912, long before any other countries played it or even heard of it. I even found a reference from 1887 to Word series. I cant find an exact reason other than it was the only place in the world at the time that had the game in leagues

In 2016 it truly is a world game as all the best players in the world are on the teams, The teams are made up of people from all over the world as 28.4% of the players are not even from America.

Well, the first one was in 1903 with a team from Pittsburgh playing a team from Boston, which is 572 miles away. So naturally, World Series.

Marketing gimmick of course, the World Baseball Classic of recent years is much more inclusive.

I would echo a comment above, but change it to say that, even though my team wasn't in it, that was the best sporting event of any kind I've ever watched. It had everything!

Ya, there's rumored to be some...they're just not as good I guess. However I was reading the Canberra Gazette during the rain delay if that's worthy of note.  [big grin]

Why some of you guys want to spoil this great game beyond your US borders beffudles mel

It is the best darn game ever devised imo.  The more I've ever tried to learn of it, the more I've come to discern it is the most intricate and multi-divverse game on the planet I know of.

When they play their "World Series", to me, it IS the best of the best in basebaĺl.  No matter there is a Canadian team.  Before long, there may be other non US teams, although the logistics of such are very questionable.

Our river is dyed Cubs Blue and some are saying the parade could have as many as 3  million people there, topping the 2 million when the Sox won. I am glad I didn't take the kids out of school for that, too many people! But great fun!

This is huge for the city.  Such an amazing year and series for the Cubs and Indians.

Two class teams that will no doubt be contenders for several years going forward!

Yeah the teams are so young. 7 games, extra innings, down to one point. It just shows these teams are as evenly matched as the universe could make them.

Are you at the Parade?

We thought about taking the kids out of school for a minute, but that's so many people it's almost freighting getting separated in that mess.

I debated going to the parade or the Millennium Park celebration downtown.  But the crowd was forecast to be huge.  (some said 5mm total along the route.)

Turns out the TV coverage was better than you could have done with being there.  And I could drink my own beer!

I only went near Chicago one time back in '63. (a long time ago, evn before i was 39) I had occasion to close down my busines for 6 months and took a trip to the West Coast.  On my way back to CT, the regulator quit in my truck.  I could either waste some time searching the wilds of Idahoe and Montana for a new regulator, or take the lazy approach.  I turned on every light anywhere on my truck to hopefully prevent burning up my battery, and kept driving.  Early in the morning, i was proceeding past Chicago along a main route along Lake Michigan shore when I was pulled over by a friendly gendarme. He told me to stop and to stay put while he drove a couple hundred feet down the road.  He told me to get out of my truck and to walk down to where he was waiting.

I had no idea what he was doing until he stopped me and told me to turn around.  As I turned around to look at my we'll lite vehicle, he told me to take a good look.  I was not sure what I was supposed to be looking at, excpt, at that point, my truck actually looked like a Christmas decoration.  He said, and i did not take it as a question, "What the h--l is THAT!?!"

I explained my electrical problem and was told in no uncertain terms that the first thing I was to do was to turn off all of my lights and to get out of Chicago NOW.  I did as told and breathed a sigh of relief to have been stopped by a cop with somewhat aparent sence of humor.  Once down the road for about half an hour, i turned on all my lights, kept my fingers crossed until back home in Connecticut, where upon i got my electrical system repaired.

I don't recall that my sighting of Lake Michigan had been affected in any way by the deep blue @Dovetail65 that you are showing.   :o [wink]

As a die-hard, lifelong White Sox fan (and season ticket holder) I AM happy for all of my lifelong die-hard Cubs fan friends.  It's about time they got the feeling that comes with winning it all.  Congrats to them.  I DO have to agree that it was probably the greatest World Series game in World Series history.  Talk about intensity.  Not only was that game good for the Cubs fans, it was very, VERY good for baseball itself.  One for the ages.
I hate to admit it (as a White Sox fan) but this Cubs team is the best all-around team I have seen in decades.  I truly believe they will win 3 of the next 5 World Series.  They are young, that good, and almost all under contract.

Speaking of the Rugby thing, too.  The loss streak that Ireland had vs. the All Blacks got broken too.  I thought I heard that Ireland hasn't beaten them in something like 118 years or some crazy number like that?

We went from the city of cursed sports franchises to the city of curse breakers.

The 5 million people at the parade was said to have been the 7th largest gathering in HUMAN HISTORY.  I took the day off so I wouldn't have to drive through THAT mess.  Good call on my part if I do say so myself.
